Weird thing - keep getting bouced to other sites

Sometimes when I access mumsnet from my dropdown list having been on another website, it opens the page (e.g. the main AIBU page) but then immediately bounces me off to another website. The website I get sent to isn't a spammy one (this morning, it was a Tesco site) so it is the type of link you might find on the side of Mumsnet, so I assumed that perhaps I had clicked something. But it's now happened on about 5 occasions so I'm fairly sure it isn't that, and the weird thing is, when I click the back button on my browser, it takes me back to whatever website I was on before loading Mumsnet.

Morning weedonleg

Sorry to hear this is happening - it sounds pretty annoying!

Can you please let us know what device you're using, which
version of the site (mobile, app, desktop), and which browser?

And if anyone else is having the problem, please do shout!

Using a laptop, with internet explorer.

I'll let you know next time it happens what page i was on and what page it bounced me to

Thanks!

Thanks, weedonleg - the more info we have, the more likely we are to be able to solve this problem for you Smile

I had that today. An Asda competition comes up instead of MN home page. Just assumed it was deliberate ad deal?

Is it a Chrome issue? There's a poster in AIBU going on about how she's been banned but only on Chrome Hmm

This is very odd.

Has anyone else had this? We will ask Tech to take a look.

I've had this too, on an Android tablet.

That is happening to me too, except I am getting a spammy looking one.

Ad90 or something like that

I'm on laptop with chrome

Mine is Internet Explorer. I have a MN link in my favourites on desktop - when I click on that for the first time I get a full screen ad but only the once, doesn't happen again.

Me too, laptop with Chrome. Mine looks spammy too. Some 'financial institution'.

I've been getting that - not using Google Chrome, am using Internet Explorer on Desktop PC. Usually get a registration screen for something called 'MyOffers'. This morning I got a box (with only an OK not a Cancel) telling me to Update. Looked dodgy so I just closed it all down.

Have had exactly the same thing - on IE10 (normal desktop site). Been pinged off to Tesco before, this morning I got pinged off to some random site which was trying to tell me I needed to upgrade my browser for security reasons with all sorts of lovely infuriating pop ups. Hmm

I've had it too - the first time to something for Tesco I think, but I'm not sure if it was their main site as I thought I had hit an ad by mistake and hit the back button. I was then taken to the page I was on before I tried to get to Mumsnet (via bookmarks). The second time it was to a My Offers registration page. It happens very quickly but I'm pretty sure the Mumsnet page flashes up before I'm redirected.

Both times on Google Chrome on desktop PC using Windows 7 Professional.

Hi everyone. We're still working on this. Do keep any info coming. It all helps. Thanks for your patience.

Same as Spacefrog's experience. Tesco has now given way to the browser upgrade messages. Happened just now 14.44.
Only difference is I'm using Chrome.

I'm now getting the browser upgrade message. You def have a bug in the works...

Twice now I have been bounced out of Mumsnet to a page Updatenowpro.com which seems to be a phishing scam. It gives a pop up that cannot be closed and even clicking cancel sends me directly
to the scam page.

I thought I had accidently clicked on something, but it seems others are having a problem.

Chrome, Windows 8.1

OP here, I just checked back on this and was surprised (and relieved) to see it was affecting others - thought it was just me going mad.

It hasn't happened to me since I originally posted but my experience was exactly the same as Everygood boy: it happens when I access mumsnet from my dropdown list, mumsnet definitely flashes up before bouncing, and when I click 'back' it takes me to the page I was on before loading mumsnet.

Still happening to me. And, it's a loud website in my case, which is extremely annoying. I'm not in the UK BTW.

YY the MN page flashes up very quickly before the 'Tesco' advert.

I'm on windows 8.1, IE10, and I've been redirected to spammy world cup sites, and had the update browser message too.

It keeps happening to me - I keep getting bounced to this GHD site. Even if I stop the page loading, it still does it Hmm I am on Firefox, using a laptop.

I should say, I'm on the latest version of Firefox, on a Windows 7 laptop.

Tapirbackrider · 25/06/2014 22:47

I've just been bounced to that GHD site - I was on the 'Active' page, right clicked a thread in AIBU, and whilst reading that thread, the Active tab went to the spam.

Every time I've been bounced, it's happened when I've got MN up in more than one tab.

Report
AGnu · 25/06/2014 22:58

I've had it a few times on the laptop. Always the Tesco site I think. I've not kept it open long enough to know more than that!
