Links - convert links automatically

Is there any tech reason why it wouldn't be possible to have the 'convert links automatically' box ticked all the time so we can untick if for some reason we don't want a link to be converted?

Not a biggie but I often forget to tick it or click on it twice by mistake especially when on the phone.
