Is this new? Why has it been added? What does it do??

<scared by change> grin

viperslast Fri 13-Sep-13 21:15:30

Thanks Rowan. It is much easier than it used to be, mainly because I can never get it to switch back to mobile! You do still need to faff to get the name change set up... wink

I never post under another name. I want to now. grin But then i wouldn't be me.

nickelbabe Fri 13-Sep-13 13:16:55

"So if you suspect someone is namechanging to mislead, please report the thread to us and we'll get on it."

obviously this rule doesn't count if it's all for a laff, does it?
when everyone is aware this is happening smile

nickelbabe Fri 13-Sep-13 13:15:57

I like the idea.

It's such a faff when you want to post under another name and have to go through registration etc to do so.

Blatherskite Fri 13-Sep-13 13:13:31

Why do I not have this?

Tee2072 Fri 13-Sep-13 12:53:56

There would be very little point in name changing if that were the case, giraffes my lovely.

Only the original nick name is highlighted.

ModeratelyObvious Fri 13-Sep-13 11:34:00

No, posts aren't coloured if the OP changes name, giraffes, never have been.

Surely it shows you as "pink" or whatever colour as the OP no matter what NN you use. So a thread full of sock puppets would be obvious

ModeratelyObvious Fri 13-Sep-13 10:44:26

I think it's brilliant Rowan, thank you flowers

<a warning before you post again ie "you have already posted under another name on this thread, are you sure?" would be really super dandy. Though possibly a coding House of Horror>

TravelinColour Fri 13-Sep-13 10:29:17

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 13-Sep-13 10:14:23

Hello hello

Yes, this was done because namechanging on the mobile site was a right faff - and as more and more of you are using the mobile site, we wanted to improve your user experience <twiddles glasses>

Posters are allowed to namechange on Mumsnet - mid-thread if they like; this has always been the case. What's not allowed is using the namechange facility to mislead - that is, to back yourself up as though you were two completely separate posters, or 'talk' to yourself (unless it's obviously a joke), etc.

Without giving too much away, we definitely have Ways of Knowing that posters are namechanging on threads. So if you suspect someone is namechanging to mislead, please report the thread to us and we'll get on it.

<faints at all the namechangers on this thread>

As to the just-for-one-post thing - we'll come back to you on that one

viperslast Fri 13-Sep-13 09:49:41

Go on HQ tell us what it's for grin

Tee2072 Thu 12-Sep-13 21:10:51

Okay, then it's a bad idea. I agree.

Then again, they may still be working on it since it's not across all the sites yet.

viperslast Thu 12-Sep-13 21:10:20

Ucm being the classic cautionary tale!

BOF Thu 12-Sep-13 21:08:33

That truly is a socky's charter. But I love it when they fuck up.

Sparklingbrook Thu 12-Sep-13 21:07:28

Just one post? Oh blimey, you could get yourself into all sorts of problems.

viperslast Thu 12-Sep-13 21:06:33

No only lasts one post. confused

Tee2072 Thu 12-Sep-13 20:52:35

I haven't tried it. Does it not stick? Then I have no idea.

AnneUulmelmahay Thu 12-Sep-13 20:35:46
