Hi Billy,

Which device are you on and what are the ads for please?

Report
dabbler · 21/05/2013 10:41

I have the same ads and the worst thing is they keep moving so can't concentrate on the thread. I was on a good housekeeping thread and they are for karcher I think. I am on a laptop.

Have just checked and they come up when I press the topic 'good housekeeping' v annoying.

It's happening to me today too and it's maddening. It's when I'm on a Flylady thread in the Good Housekeeping topic. The ad is always for Karcher. I had to leave the thread because I can't concentrate. Other people on the thread are complaining too.

I am on a laptop. And I'm using Firefox.

Laptop, IE. karcher, flashing through various pictures/text. It is migraine inducing. Sent a report via report post function.

Me too, Karcher here and I'm on Safari. I'm on the same thread as some of the other posters here and the box for posting a further message in has disappeared too.

I assumed it was because I have been researching pressure washers. Clearly not.

I'm on Google and the Karcher ad is infuriating. I've turned off Goodhousekeeping now. Please make it go away MNSNet Headquarters!

I'm on chrome and have something going on round the borders of my screen. It looks like there is a window behind the one I am using, but there isn't iykwim.
It comes in and out. I can't see what it's for or anything, but very annoying to see this thin column (no more that a half centimeter) moving about on the edge of the screen.
Also only happening on the FLY thread in housekeeping.

I keep getting this, it is horrible! I am on a laptop, and get it mostly when on 'active' and then less often when I click on the thread

Report
feetheart · 21/05/2013 23:22

Please, please, please get rid of it.
I am on Firefox on a Mac.
It is only happening on the Flylady thread in Good Housekeeping but it is on both sides, it is there all the time and it moves around making it impossible to concentrate on reading or posting and it is triggering my visual aura thing which leads to a migraine.
It is truly horrible.

Ladies, you do realise you can block all ads on both Firefox and Safari, don't you?

Report
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/05/2013 23:34

Yes, but it is odd that I never normally have any problems with adverts, I don't really mind them and just ignore but and this one has come along and caused really strange behaviour.

Laptop and it's on active I think. Headache inducing is definitely the word!

As much as it is possible to block the adverts that wouldn't solve the change of page format that is associated. Which is as equally annoying but not migraine inducing. WHY has this happened because it blocks out all of the normal links on the side panel that are normally there making it harder to navigate around the site from the pages affected by this high rate changing advert.

HQ any news on this issue?

Report
HelenMumsnet · 22/05/2013 09:56

Morning.

Ok, there is a Karcher ad (of the sort you're describing) on the Good Housekeeping topic but not anywhere else.

Is this the one you're talking about - or are you seeing these 'down the sides' ads on any other topics?

Report
CHBitchy · 22/05/2013 10:11

I only view 3 specific threads. I have not encountered it in Adult fiction, Big slim whatever diet or this topic. It appears to be all over the housekeeping topic. Can't comment on other topics though. I don't use most of mn these days.

CHBitchy · 22/05/2013 10:12

Oh, just clicked on active convos and the grey scroll bar on the lhs of the list that appeared in housekeeping topic before the advert appeared seems to have appear there.

Report
feetheart · 22/05/2013 10:29

Only encountered it in Good Housekeeping and I was wandering all over the site far too late last night

ToffeeWhirl · 22/05/2013 11:38

Link to Adblock Plus is here. It has blocked the ads on Firefox for me Grin.

Only on the Fledgling Flylady thread for me, but I'm not on any other GH ones at the moment. Not seen it on Telly addicts or Prolapses.....

I've just installed Adblock on Safari and got rid of it.

OK, so it's the Karcher ad in Good Housekeeping.

Right, we've checked and it's due to come down at the end of May. Do you think you could bear with us till then?

We do rely on revenue from ads to keep Mumsnet free for all to post on, keep the servers ticking over and all that.

Report
IDismyname · 22/05/2013 11:53

Gawd! Its truly awful.

Looks like Good Housekeeping's going to be a bit quiet until the end of May, then!

(Goes to lie down with the beginning of migrane...)

Report
ToffeeWhirl · 22/05/2013 12:02

Helen - I have blocked it now, so I'm happy, but I could not have put up with it until the end of May.

I understand about needing revenue, but, in this case, you can't read the ad because it's split across the screen and it's back to front, so it's not a very good ad anyway unless it is a clever way to imprint the name 'Karcher' on our brains forever, which has worked on me.
