What is up with the pound key it's driving me mad when people put £50 or whatever and it doesn't show up as that

Is it me?

HighwayDragon Tue 02-Sep-14 09:06:39

I'm on a samsung tab tech, using the app

Nessalina Tue 02-Sep-14 09:00:50

Lol, scrap that, & seems to work ok now! Didn't use to. I can write & to my heart's content now!! grin

I think that the & sign (ampersand) causes problems on the app as well as the £ sign (pound). Very annoying!

Yup, I get it on the iPad for lots of different things, I get the dodgy pound, Euro and the capital A with a mark.

The capital A with a hat is caused when our server mis-interprets what your browser sends. From Wikipedia....

For example, the pound sign "£" will appear as "£" if it was encoded by the sender as UTF-8 but interpreted by the recipient as CP1252 or ISO 8859-1. If iterated, this can lead to "£", "£", etc.

What did you send the "Sun 31-Aug-14 12:35:42" message from, HighwayDragon? Was it a phone / computer? Do you remember which browser?

AmyMumsnet (MNHQ) Sun 31-Aug-14 16:24:45

Hi everyone,

Sorry about that! Don't know where the A came from, but we'll see if Tech do.

This is the case for a lot of symbols. I think speech marks etc have it. Some posts are unreadable.

HighwayDragon Sun 31-Aug-14 12:36:08

what is with the capital a with the hat?!

Also I noticed someone wrote a name on here with a hyphen over it and it did the same thing. Not sure what I was as I didn't look on desktop site. Thread was entitled. "What's your name?"

My previous post looks OK on the desktop site but shows a variety of &pound combinations on the iPhone app. Thanks for raising this, I'll add it to the list.
