Good morning HQ, how are you all today? I've had another of my ideas re. Aibu

How about renaming the whole topic

Petty Gripes

?

I think that would stop people from posting chat or serious questions in the aibu topic, and petty gripes pretty accurately describes the rest of what is left in there.

Then I could hide Petty Gripes without the nagging fear that I might miss something interesting or helpful because people will not give a bit of thought to where they put their questions.

What say you?

Thanks

Good morning, Mintyy. And Grin at this.

We are fine, thank you. But probably need a topic today called Blinkin' Major Gripes.

Or maybe that's just me...

CarpeJugulum · 23/11/2012 11:16

I think you'd need to subdivide it into

"Light-hearted petty gripes"

And

"Controversial petty gripes with drip-feeding"

Also, what about
"Petty gripes that are really reverse petty gripes"

Ooooh Oooh Oooh!

"petty gripes that have been done to death" aka P&C, BF v FF etc.

'Please be aware your petty gripes may attract vicious and unnecessarily cruel responses from other posters and usually you are the wrongdoer in most people's opinion. Petty gripes is not a fight club, but there will be arguments and swears.'

"Petty gripes that you must agree with op on"

"petty gripes that nevertheless take one immense paragraph to describe"

"petty gripes where op doesn't come back"

See? There's room for lots of little sub-topics.

Sorry to hear about the Major Gripes Helen Brew and a Biscuit for you.

I agree that the AIBU phrasing encourages eejits posters to put AIBU to think something banal or AIBU to ask a question that should be in Chat.

Let's call it Arsewipes and Petty Gripes.

You need "Petty gripes that go on and on in an immense OP with no paragraphs and little punctuation, and you get to the end and still don't get it"..
Needs a snappier name hough

BlameItOnTheCuervHoHoHo · 23/11/2012 12:23

How about "kick anyone who disagrees with you"?

Report
KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 23/11/2012 12:25

I like it slightly the other way around. "Petty Gripes for Arsewipes"
That way it covers both the content and a good chunk of the responders.

There should be a whole topic just for 'who is BU, me or MIL?'

e.g 'My MIL looks after my dc for free 5 days a week so I can work, but yesterday she gave the 10 month old a chocolate finger. aibu to kill her and bury her under the patio?'

Report
DowagersHump · 23/11/2012 12:30

I think it should be more panto-themed. So AIBU (oh yes you are, oh no I'm not, etc)

Report
FivesAndNorks · 23/11/2012 12:30

Mine should be "Is my shaggy dog being unreasonable?"

Report
greenhill · 23/11/2012 12:32

What about 'petty gripes (beware verbiage)' as a topic?

That way we won't spend 5 minutes ploughing through incomprehensible nonsense and bad spelling / punctuation...sadly only pedants, like me, will know what verbiage means
I like the 'kick poster' option when I'm in a bad mood

I'm on the fence about 'hide poster' while it will improve my BP I do have the option of switching of MN for a few hours...

IAmSoFuckingRock · 23/11/2012 12:39

we need 'petty gripes' and then 'response to petty gripes from the other party who was informed at the school gate that she was being griped about' Wink

Report
IAmSoFuckingRock · 23/11/2012 12:40

oh yes a kick poster button would be great.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 23/11/2012 13:09

What if we made AIBU poll only? So AIBU then three tick boxes - Yes YABU, No YANBU and Do Fuck Off, there's a Lamb.
No bunfights, no drama. Just lovely statistical answers.

Report
FivesAndNorks · 23/11/2012 13:12

What about yes yabu and dfotal?

Report
Lougle · 23/11/2012 13:17

Then you'd need another topic called 'My gripe is so not petty!!'

BlameItOnTheCuervHoHoHo · 23/11/2012 13:36

There could be a special link to flouncers corner!

Maryz - I'd like to remind you that I once posted an AIBU question because I genuinely wanted to know whether a particular activity by my SIL was acceptable, got a two-thirds opinion that it was fine and what was I bleating about, of course IWBU etc, so I said 'fair enough, good to know', and your response was essentially 'you're no fun accepting our opinion, you're meant to flounce off now'. So could it really be, Maryz, that you engage with IABU because you're really looking for a bunfight and are not interested in the second option at all? Grin

There needs to be an adequate holding pen for posters that use AIBU as an excuse to abandon common politeness and decency at the door.

Can mostly be heard defensively sqawking, 'but they posted in AIBU, they should expect a verbal kicking.'

I'd like AIBU to become Petty Gripes. Then I could hide it, safe in the knowledge that I'm missing nothing exciting.
