Hello. We've been aware for a while now that MN Local isn't all it could be and we've been beavering away for several months now to make it much, much better.

And today's the Grand Unveiling of the all-new, all-singing, all-dancing (well, OK, not quite singing and dancing just yet) Mumsnet Local

We've reorganised the Local sites a bit (they were a bit random, geographically speaking, before). And, if you go to your nearest Mumsnet Local site, you'll see there's much more to it and it's much easier to find your way about. There are loads more categories for listings and space for reviews, and you'll find nearly new inside an expanded Classifieds section - which should make your Mumsnet Local an altogether more helpful place to hang out. Don't worry, we haven't lost the talk threads from old Local. They'll be reappearing in the new sites very soon.

Some Mumsnet Local sites are still a bit light on listings and info (we're working on that right now) but, if you'd like a look at what we're hoping all Mumsnet Locals will look like pretty darn soon, do have a butcher's at Bath. If you want to share something with other Mumsnetters on any of the sites, just click on Add a Listing (the pink button on the right just under the navigation bar).

Sites that are not far behind include Bedford, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Bolton & Bury, Manchester & Trafford, Bournemouth & Poole, Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Exeter, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Surrey, and in London? Barnet, Lambeth, Hackney, Haringey, Hillingdon, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Waltham Forest boroughs.

And we're hoping all the other Local sites, including those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, will be hot on their tails. We're looking to entice people to look after these sites, but more on that soon.

We've designed an easy-to-use Meet Ups page. If you want to volunteer to organise a regular meet-up in your area, just email local@mumsnet.com . There are more bits and pieces and snazzy new features to come, too. Once --Tech's had a bit of a lie down

We do hope you like what you see. Do let us know what you think - as ever, all feedback is most welcome.

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 17-Oct-12 12:20:29

While we're fixing <ahem, consults manual>, do click on the 'Local' link in our big blue Navigation Bar at the top.

redlac Wed 17-Oct-12 12:22:18

Having a bad day HelenMumsnet? smile

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 17-Oct-12 12:27:50

First two links should be working now. Meet-ups one on its way <wipes fevered brow>

HelenMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 17-Oct-12 12:29:50

Go on, somebody tell us they're working, for gawd's sake

Faverolles Wed 17-Oct-12 12:32:29

Yes, looks really good smile

When I click on links like children's centres, are they meant to be blank?

If they're waiting for info, I'm happy to find and email info for my area.

EmmaMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 17-Oct-12 12:41:38

Yes, not all the areas have listings in yet, so it would be great if you added info for your local area, thanks Faverolles

Hello!

Have had a wee look and have noticed that there isn't a local page for the whole of Cumbria and for North Lancs. Preston and Blackpool are the nearest to where I am on the Cumbria border, but close is relative IYSWIM.

If I collate information about what's going on in North Lancs / South Lakes and send it over could it be added as a local page?

Are all of you who are getting that error on the mobile site?

MissHuffy Wed 17-Oct-12 12:49:14

Looks loads better in layout. My area is empty of info but I do realise it'll take time to populate them all. Much, much better!

EmmaMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 17-Oct-12 12:49:15

Hello Screaming,
You'll find Cumbria at local.mumsnet.com/cumbria and Lancashire at local.mumsnet.com/lancashire

To find other sites you can go to local.mumsnet.com and use the UK map

Hello, I am confused (and using mobile site)

If I type Glasgow I to the search box and search nothing happens.

If I click on Glasgow on the map it pops up a wee box. If I click on the box/the word Glasgow within the box nothing happens.

Am I totally thick?

Pascha Wed 17-Oct-12 12:50:49

I don't get any errors with the first link but none of the buttons work, just says 'This feature is coming soon' (in my head that sounds like the deep male voiceover man on all the film trailers). I presume my own local site isnt up and running yet as there's no access to it from the map.

MissRee Wed 17-Oct-12 12:50:51

All I'm getting is script confused

Pascha Wed 17-Oct-12 12:52:10

and I can't get a cursor in the search box.
