Hello MNHQ - a question about automatic links please?

Seems that quite a few of us are now having names of online shops come up as automatic links.

Eg(and fingers crossed these work!

Argos
Next
Marks and spencers
Wilkes
Toys r us

Can you confirm if this is a new addition to MN or are we all infected with something nasty?

Thankoo! Grin

Wow that's weird!

I wonder if the shops are paying for it? It seems like a useful feature for them...

Hmm

So now it will look as though posters are linking to all these White companies?

I remember when The Motley Fool tried this context-based advertising.

It was not popular.

To put it mildly.

Haha- DameFanny- you must have typed that yourself, surely... don't MN link with Naked wines? (and aren't Oddbins out of business??)

Um

I've just seen it happen on a poster mentioning an iPhone, it linked to an ebay site Hmm

When you mouseover it says "Shopping link added by skimlinks"

Please don't end up doing this on every keyword, MN, it looks awful!

Woah! Maybe not....

DameFanny · 02/10/2012 23:06

So what else is contextually appropriate for MN?

gordons or Hendricks?

SmokyClav · 02/10/2012 23:07

Great Bertie... because there aren't any unscrupulous types that 'sell' i phones on ebay (and then don't deliver) oh, no.

I don't like it! I feel like someone's been inside my post, messing with it! I feel all dirty!

WHAT and now it's gone? I swear the word "ebay" in my post was a link a second ago, and now it isn't!

It's coming and going on mine, it's most odd.

Or at least, I posted the first one and when I posted and it reloaded the thread, just ebay was a link.

Then I posted about how I didn't like it, and while I was doing this, I noticed that ebay was no longer a link.

Posted that and the thread reloaded after posting, now iPhone and ebay are both links. It's like it disabled the one for a second while adding the other.

If it is a skimlinks thing I guess mn are trying to drum up some extra revenue. Can we really complain?
