Really? You are?
I'll search you and see.

RaisinDEtre Fri 21-Sep-12 16:19:58

Mavis shall I have a look for you?

THERhubarb Fri 21-Sep-12 16:20:50

No they don't. Just looked. But of course they can just go into special needs and look for you. Have you contacted MNHQ?

I feel as if they should, actually.

Not for stalking purposes, but because someone new with a child with SN might sign up to MN and search for something SN-related.

If SN posts don't come up in search, how would they even know that the SN section existed, given that you have to go into your settings to opt in to see it?

RaisinDEtre Fri 21-Sep-12 16:27:46

Mavis contact MNHQ in this instance

I don't know the answer

Hope you are ok x

As far as I know it will show up on Google as well, if you are worried about stalking. The only area that MN have said is non-Googleable is OTBT (and then only if the thread was started there, not if the thread was moved there)

THERhubarb Fri 21-Sep-12 16:30:42

Look, change your name and just start again. Be aware that personal details can make you recognisable.

Yes you may have to start from scratch but you can PM old 'friends' on the boards to let them know of your name change.

If someone is stalking you, even if their intention is good, it's not really fair and puts you in a difficult position. There isn't much MNHQ can do to help I suspect as they might not be doing it with malicious intent iyswim?

lisad123 Fri 21-Sep-12 16:30:56

I'm pretty sure they do, feel free to search my name and see if my sn posts show up smile

RaisinDEtre Fri 21-Sep-12 16:32:02

I am not opted into SN.

I search for lisad123 and she has posted in Special Needs : Children on a thread called "Friday night thread", which I assume is not about bumsex but I didn't actually read.

So yes.

RaisinDEtre Fri 21-Sep-12 16:37:55

Yep so looks like if your search via name, you can see all posts apart from OTBT
Sorry sad
And no Friday night threads are not a bumsex thread sadly grin

Lougle Fri 21-Sep-12 16:42:59

Ok, I've just run a couple of tests <get me wink>

When I have SN opted in, I see all SN posts in active convos as usual.

When I opt out I don't.

When I search, whether opted in or out, I see all posts in SN.

When I go to topics, whether opted in or out, I see all SN sections.

In other words, the only thing opt out does, is prevent SN from appearing in Active Convos. It doesn't stop it appearing in any other sense.

THETrills Fri 21-Sep-12 16:44:46

Good testing Lougle smile

RaisinDEtre Fri 21-Sep-12 16:46:42
