Mumsnet Co-Buying has launched this week. It works as follows: say lots of Mumsnetters want the same product - could be chocolate or cosmetics, could be gadgets or sports gear - then with Mumsnet Co-Buying the more of you who buy it, the cheaper the price becomes. In partnership with BuyaPowa, we'll feature different products each week. There will be a limited number of each product and each offer will last for a limited amount of time. For more information click here.
So we'd like to know what you'd like to see featured on Mumsnet Co-Buying.
Tell us here and we'll do our best to get the products you want.

I need to know ore about how it works before I commit KatieB.

Is it like a swanky high class PriceDrop TV?

Atm these things would please me.

HC salted caramel puddles.
Chanel Nail Varnish - Particuliere.
Cable and Cotton pick your own.
Tweezerman tweezers.
Liquorice comfits.
Rhubarb liqueur.
Australian Organics hair stuff.

That's my birthday wish list sorted then.

Think some stickiness is required here KatieB.

Tee2072 Tue 28-Feb-12 15:14:09

I agree with Chaos, more details please!

There are millions of MNetters so limiting the one I just saw, for example, to 100 seems a bit low. Millions might be a bit of hyperbole, but you know what I mean. grin

And I like Chaos' list. Also:

Restaurants, chains it would have to be
Beauty treatments

is this a bit like groupon/wowcher?

LoonyRationalist Tue 28-Feb-12 15:41:00

Link doesn't work for me either, get the same as Itsallgoingtobefine. Also on mobile site.

DottyDot Tue 28-Feb-12 15:42:32

Sadly, the link works for me (just ordered the Green and Black's chocolate blush).

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 28-Feb-12 15:53:53

Sorry about the link - we're looking into it smile

Blu Tue 28-Feb-12 15:58:05

Icey Tek coolboxes!

SweetestThing Tue 28-Feb-12 16:03:58

Based on the number of times I have seen them mentioned on MN:

Oven Pride
Lakeland heated clothes airer
Shred DVD

poorbuthappy Tue 28-Feb-12 16:06:02

Why can't I use links to other bits if the site when on app?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Tue 28-Feb-12 16:13:18

Nooo, MNHQ fix the link! I need cheap chocolate esp if it's Green & Blacks!

AgentProvocateur Tue 28-Feb-12 16:14:07

The G&B isn't that much of a saving - Tesco and Sainsbury's both have 2 bars for £3 at the moment, and I don't think I've ever seen a bar priced at £2.58, which is the RRP, according to BuyaPowa hmm

Tech (MNHQ) Tue 28-Feb-12 17:48:26

Hi ItsAllGoingToBeFine, Sorry about that. The link wasn't working from the mobile site. It should work now, though the page it links to is not mobile-optimized, so you might have to do a bit of scrolling. You shouldn't get an error though.

RatDesPaquerettes Tue 28-Feb-12 20:01:51

I have ordered the G&B chocolate. However, the 'rules' seem ambiguous to me and I am even wondering if this is a bit of a con.

My confirmation email stated: 'Current price £6' and 'Best price £3'.

I am happy to pay £3 for the chocolate. At £6, particularly in the light of AgentProvocateur's comment, I do not want it.

Can anybody from MNHQ clarify the exact rules of a co-buy deal?

<Thought was getting a good deal but now a bit deflated sad>

RatDesPaquerettes Tue 28-Feb-12 21:26:31

I have now read the rules in detail. I suppose it is my own fault for not paying more attention the first time.

Basically, the best price is only achieved if 100 people take up the offer. However, you are still contracted to buy the product at whatever current price is achieved depending on the number of people who are purchasing the product.

In this case, the starting price was £6 (which is pretty much a shit price, as established by AgentProvocateur).

At the moment, it is still £6 and will remain so until at least 25 people decide to purchase the chocolate. It will then drop to £5. Another 25 people later and it drops to £4. Another 25 people and it drops to £3, which makes it a total of 75 people. I don't quite understand why it then seems to need 100 people but that is probably me being thick.

In summary, my view is that this co-buy and any that follows the same rules are NOT a good deal.

(I fully appreciate that I am shooting myself in the foot here as ideally, I should be aiming to enrol more people on the deal. I am pretty annoyed with myself for falling for it though!).

RatDesPaquerettes Tue 28-Feb-12 21:57:48

Actually, isn't Groupon with all its flaws better as at least, you know which price you are definitely getting your product or service at?

<Disclaimer: may also have misunderstood how Groupon works>

KatieBMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 29-Feb-12 12:08:04

Thanks for your feedback so far. RatDesPaquerettes we will work to make the rules more prominent so everyone can see what they're signing up to. The principle behind this is, like any kind of bulk buying, the more a retailer sells, the cheaper they can afford to make a product. But we have spoken to Buyapowa and agreed that as a special one off on this first co-buy only, even if it doesn't get to 100 buyers we'll make the price £3 for everyone anyway. We are really keen to use this to get Mumsnetters great deals on products they want - so please do keep telling us what you'd like us to look into featuring in future.

RatDesPaquerettes Wed 29-Feb-12 12:35:52

Thanks, KatieB. I think it is a good move to make the rules more prominent, so that people are fully aware what they are signing up to.

Now... good news about the special one-off deal for G&B chocolate. That should hopefully trigger more interest in that particular deal.
