Hi MNHQ

I was just wondering (as I think several other posters are), how you decide if a particular poster is a 'troll' and if their thread should be pulled.

Is it done by IP addresses?? Previous form?

I reckon it must be to do with ip addresses. They can see if it's a name changer, then look at their previous messages under their usual name. See if stuff adds up. So if the troll talks about a young dd and a baby but in her normal guise she says she has four boys then it doesn't add up.

That's my best guess anyway.

The thing is op if they say exactly then the trolls will know.

not it's not "stoopid" for them not to want to broadcast to all and sundry, including the trolls, how they get on to them.

I think you'll find that the Secret Service doesn't comment on procedure.

Sigh. Mark Harmon, Agent Sunshine, or "Special" Agent Sunshine - Butterfield was all noble with his not commenting on procedure but...

Olivia - you could be Special Agent Mumsnet Grin

I thought I'd add to this thread rather than start my own.

I reported a poster I suspect of being a troll two days ago. I haven't had a response, and I specifically asked for one as this poster is posting on a sensitive topic.

I would really appreciate a response, MNHQ, it would be courteous given I've followed your procedure and not troll hunted but simply reported. I understand though that mid August is probably not the time to expect a prompt response, but I still hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Supercal
First off sorry that it took a while to get back but I've just checked. you should have had an email from Mumsnet Towers yesterday afternoon around 4pm? Perhaps we went into your spam folder {sob}
If not, do send us a mail to contactus and we'll re-send.
We do appreciate your taking time to make contact off-board - thanks very much
MNHQ

Hello CJ Olivia

Yes, it did go into my spam folder! Thank you for the response, sorry for chasing you unnecessarily - I've received MN newsletters in the last day or two but this one slipped through the net.

This is why I think they should just say "it's our website, we know everything" and look all knowing.
