That is Active and in Topics and anywhere else where we see a list of threads :)

I can see how it would be useful but i think it would make the list too cluttered.

Why does it matter who started the thread?
Although a date started would be good. I've read too many 100 odd posts threads, only to realise its been bumped from 2004.

Why does it matter who started the thread?

I think it matters who started a thread more than it matters who posted most recently.

why?

Report
AurraSing · 16/07/2011 14:43

I may be totally wrong about this, but I suspect that people will open at thread because the like/know the OP, rather than because they are interested in the subject of the post. We could end up where active convos are dominated by a few posters. I've seen it happen on other, admittedly much smaller, sites.

If you can see who started a thread:

1 you can avoid threads by people who always wind you up

2 you can choose threads by people who are always entertaining (even if the title doesn't look like much)

3 you can choose to open threads that are part of an ongoing saga (when there's no more room in your life for another SIL dilemma, but you are already invested in this particular one)

and other stuff too, probably

i like mn how it is. think all these suggestions for changes are making us sound like petulant teenagers myself

i mean how hard is it to open a thread and look at op?

Report
TrillianAstra · 16/07/2011 14:46

It wouldn't stop me from opening an interesting-looking thread if I didn't know the OP.

I like the idea.
and @Aurasing "I've read too many 100 odd posts threads, only to realise its been bumped from 2004." - pmsl, thought it was just me and didn't want to own up Grin

I really want this. It would mean that I can instantly hide or go to certain threads. Aaaand, since it's really a very fast database access system (I assume) couldn't we choose our own columns?

Hi,

We could potentially include a couple of tick-boxes on the Customise page to allow you to add an OP name or creation time column. Do people agree with that? Including them by default may make the page a bit confusing for our non-veterans.

BelleDameSansMerci · 18/07/2011 11:43

That would be ideal, IMO. Thank you.

TrillianAstra · 18/07/2011 21:09

Oooh ooh yes please! I do love a nice tick box. You can get all superior when people say "how come you have that and I don't?" and tell them it's in the settings :o

Not a column, just a name under the title of the thread?

Report
Pin0t · 19/07/2011 09:46

A tick box you say? Spiffing. Thanks :)

Hi all,

This is now available from the Customise page, near the bottom. :)

Hmmm it's a nice idea, however with the new narrower format for thread lists, it leaves about 7 characters for the thread title.

If you are looking for feedback about the new thread list - I don't like it at all, put it back the way it was please.
