So sorry Mars - you've been well and truly ignored there. We'll check this out with our campaigns team and come back to you.

Hello lovely Mars - how are you? This is some work we've been doing with UCL. We pitched with them for a grant from the Health Foundation which they won. Our bit of it is going to be asking Mumsnetters for their opinions on ante natal care (don't think we'll have any shortage of views there smile) and reporting back, with a view to them running a pilot programme at UCL implementing - hopefully - some of the changes we suggest. Then if it works, there may be an argument for national take-up.

As with everything in the NHS it's quite a long process - but it's great to be involved and we'll try and keep you posted.

Hope that helps and apologies for delayed response

Thanks for replying Carrie.

Who are (M)ums power? And when do you start asking the MNers? And can I ask what the aims and intentions are?

What might the pilot scheme contain? Are you talking antenatal classes? Antenatal care?

I'm very interested as it is a hospital that I do a lot of Doula-ing in and I would love to know how this will affect my clients and also my work iyswim.

Much appreciated. grin

Hi Mars - sorry for taking a while to get back to you - we weren't ignoring you honest!

The project is still in the early planning stages so we don't know when we'll be asking MNers for their help or what exactly we'll be asking you yet, but as soon as we know more, we'll share it with you.

It's a big collaboration between UCL, the Innovation Unit, MN and others. The overall aim is to improve antenatal services at the test sites in London to start with and then hopefully nationwide after that. I've put the word out to our collaborators that MNers are interested to know more so when they come back to me with some more info I'll post it here.

Thanks for your interest and apologies again for our tardiness!

Looking forward to hearing more. grin

Hi again Mars - apologies for the delay. Here's a bit more info on the project which we think should start to kick off in the next few weeks.

M(ums) Power is a collaborative project between many partners including University College London, Mumsnet, Camden Social Enterprise, North Central London NHS and Microsoft. It is being funded by the Health Foundation and is looking at antenatal care provision. We understand how important antenatal care is, and what an exciting and scary time this can be. We aim to find a way to improve the experience of both mums and clinicians in the antenatal period, and improve the care that is provided. We are very keen that we don’t start off thinking we know what is best, or how we will achieve this, so in order to be able to improve care, we have started to speak to women and clinicians (midwives, obstetricians and GPs) to find out what is working well about antenatal care, and what could be improved.

We have run a couple of workshops so far, which have given us lots to think about, but we realise that not everyone is able to get to these in person. We are setting up a project Blog and email address and will be asking Mumsnetters (not just those based in North Central London) for their views and experiences so please keep an eye out for this happening soon.
