Thread deletion

In the old days (waits for scottishmummy!), threads were not deleted because they did not go the way the OP wanted. In fact, I remember posts from MNHQ talking about them still being valuable etc etc. And now you get to hide them if you don't like the way they are going.

But it seems you can just ask now, and it happens.

And that annoys me, especially when I am just composing my post Hmm

I am feeling like an old gimmer now...

Hi basingstoke

It is a difficult one to call but we generally do not delete threads just because we are asked/the OP doesn't like the response.

We do question all deletions and there are many reasons why we will delete but the OP having a strop threads not going the OPs way is not one of them.

Really?

I have lost count of the threads I have read/been on where eventally the OP says I am going to get this deleted now" and a little while later - poof! up in smoke.

it seems to happen a lot

I thought they were only deleted under extreme circs like TMI rl info or trolls, or personal attacks

I htink that is what a lot of people hide behind, shoesy - eg post an AIBU - get pasted and flamed out of all existence, decide they want it deleted and then ask for deletion on grounds of "being recognisable" or similar.

but loads of threads do go, and it has been posted before that policy on deletion includes "asked by OP"

lots of the disabled ones go eventually - you know, after lots of posts explaining why the OP is a wanker wrong - lots of valuable info, but it gets pulled because the OP doesn't want a rep for being a wanker disablist stuff.

some of them go as they break the rules, same as racist stuff goes. (if I ever report them i normally get oh it is their opinion )

but that's what I mean - the threads don't go because they are against the rules - there have been so many of them which are let to stand "because it's educational" or for whatever reason.

but then the OP appears back again, syas "I'm going ot get this deleted, it was unwise" and poof! away ti goes.

if they went because they were disablist, I woudl mind not a jot. but we have all had the replies of "oh, it's their opinion" "free speech" etc - but if the OP changes their mind it's another thing...

surely if that is the case then mn hq should explain,
imo troll threads shouldn't go, mn hq should just post saying the poster is a troll, that way you don't get countless threads about a thread

This was a thread about a thread Blush

And I couldn't see why it was deleted, apart from the OP was getting a flaming, and had popped up just before and said she had asked for it to be deleted...

It wasn't pretty, but there is always the 'hide the thread' option - which I have used myself. That and a couple of days away from MN.
