This is something I've been doing with my OH for some time now, trust me he will love it....

Rubber gloves were a must for me to start with then when I got more into it I don't tend to bother with them now.

Advice I guess is make sure you turn each other on before you get going, I know it sounds silly but the more turned on he is the smoother it will all go.

I don't bother with gloves either - its not as messy up there as people think. Just make sure to trim your nails - and a strongish vibe on his gooch first will help his muscles to relax before entry.

I don't bother with gloves. Can't really add more advice than what's been said, other than buy a really good lube from a sex shop and not a rubbish one from Superdrug or something.
