Does anybody else have side effects from having the implant? If so, what side effects do you have and how long have you had it in for?

I'm on the Nexplanon by the way.... thanks in advance!

My housemate at uni had no side effect other than no period at all for 3 years.

I had one for a year and bled every single day. But no mood swings or weight gain etc.

I've got a four month old. Does that count as a side effect?

Glitterkitten24 · 24/02/2017 21:10

EmbooWink that made me laugh!

I have had about 4 implants with little issues, except hardly any periods.
I've had a new one in for a couple of months now and fee awful- mood swings, hormonal, like I'm on the first au of my period constantly. I'm going to get it removed.

Had you spotted there's a contraception topic?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/family_planning

You might find it useful to have a browse over there.

This thread has been running for ages about the implant

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/family_planning/1282683-Nexplanon-implant-thing-how-I-regret-that

and there are other shorter ones too.

Are you thinking of changing method?

Emboo19 · 24/02/2017 21:56

Ha, yes mamatoone It's very rare it fails though, it's supposedly more than 99% effective.
Other than that, I didn't have any side effects.

Emboo19 · 24/02/2017 21:59

In fairness the 4 month old is a pretty good contraceptive!

Minime85 · 25/02/2017 15:24

The mother of all thrush, no Sex drive, mood swings and complete head fuzziness all the time. I hated it

Lilyloo456 · 25/02/2017 15:32

I was on the pill for years, when my doctor suggested I try a different method as I was rubbish in taking it ( or rather forgetting to take it) I looked at all options, the implant, the coil, the injection and decided to go for the implant. Wish I'd had it years ago! Don't feel any side effects at all, and I've not had a "proper period" since I've had it in. Only thing is I used to know when I was due on as I'd get moody etc and generally a bitch to live with 😆 before my period, and now I have no idea if I'm moody cos I'm "due on" or if I'm just being a Bitch haha.

arista · 25/02/2017 22:40

While on it I bled for 18 months practically every day at the end got it removed. Was quite moody as well.

flamingnoravera · 25/02/2017 22:50

Constant heavy bleeding and night sweats that drenched the bed daily. It all stopped when the thing was removed. The doctor refused to accept they were linked. It was the same doctor that told me my rectocele was nothing and could be cured with pelvic floor exercises.

terrythetrex · 04/03/2017 15:27

Zero sex drive and became I total nightmare flew into rages I have never experienced before. Had it removed and suddenly turned into a human again.
