GSCE - remarking papers

How long does it take to hear the results of a request for remarking? One of my children has been told that the school is requesting a remark of some of their papers because they narrowly missed an A*. We have not even been asked if we want this to happen, although I don't object to it.

You should have been asked as the mark could go down as well as up. Normally, parents have to pay for the re-mark.

No idea about timings. A-level papers are within a few weeks.

they asked children to sign, after telling them the mark could go down but they were so far from the lower grade that it was unlikely to put their grade down.

Nothing was said about paying (apart from grumbling about the cost). I guess the school wants to improve its position in the league tables.

You only have to pay if the appeal is unsuccessful. It looks like the school felt confident enough that the mark would go up that they felt that it was worth pursuing.
We had an appeal a few years ago - we knew the result by early October.

Thank you. They have made quite a few requests for remarks. Apparently in one subject they felt papers were marked harshly so there are several children involved. I'll wait patiently.

we are in the same boat DMspecial, my son and quite a few others at his old school got much lower marks than expected in English. A few of them contacted the school and we've just got an email back saying the school has sent quite a few of them off for re-marking and we should get the results in less than 3 weeks. No mention of us having to pay anything although earlier the school implied that they may pay the costs. we've not signed anything so will wait and see. I'll wait patiently with you wink
