I think KS3 goes up to about 14
And high numbers are better than low ones

But if he's already getting 5's in some subjects then that sounds very good

Ok at 11 years old, (Year 7), level 3 is below expectations, level 4 is expected, and level 5 is above expectations.

""Levels of achievement

The National Curriculum sets standards of achievement in each subject for pupils aged 5 to 14. For most subjects, these standards range from Levels 1 through to 8. Pupils progress through the levels as they get older and learn more:

* most 7 year olds are expected to achieve Level 2
* most 11 year olds are expected to achieve Level 4
* most 14 year olds are expected to achieve Levels 5 or 6

So basically, all he is doing great in all the core subjects.

ks3 goes up to level 7 in most subjects and 8 in maths, but that is for the end of year 9

3 is average for year 7 in new subject such as languages. For subjects such as maths, english etc they should go up about 2 sublevels a year.

But in the subjects he has just started, like languages, you wouldn't expect him to be achieving a level equivalent to English, Maths and Science.

The comments should put it all in perspective for you.
