Gutted

So, there is one school in my city that admits 12 on ability. We're not in a grammar area. Other schools in the city are okay but not sure that they always stretch the most able. DD is very bright. She decided she wanted to sit the entrance exam, despite the small chance. She has worked really hard this year and has been getting high 90% in all mock exams; 99% this week. She has hated being off school during lockdown, preparing for the exam has kept her going. Today (ironically while she was at tutoring) we found out that the school is not doing the entrance exam this year and there will be no academic entry, we don't qualify by any of the other criteria. She is gutted, we are gutted for her and so annoyed, the exam was 3 weeks away. Damn Covid.

@thefemaleJoshLyman we have been through the same my daughter wanted to go to a dance college but all auditions have been cancelled for the run up to September - I’m presuming they’ve taken kids they know - it’s crap I’ve not got any advice but just too let you know your not on your own - I’m so worried that we have a generation of kids that have had their dreams crushed in the most cruel way xx

Hi @theFemaleJoshLyman
That's so awful - Im so sorry!
Which City? If NW London can advise on some scholarship options??
Good Luck!

Thanks @PipaJJ
We are in East Anglia,we did look at scholarship options but we don't qualify for any bursaries at local independent schools and although we could afford for DD we would be broke paying for our two DC (which would be only fair!)
DD is now resolved to go to our local school and is quite excited about going with her friends. The fact that she has loved the challenge of tutoring makes me think that there might be other ways outside of school to keep the challenge high for her.

I’m not entirely sure it’s legal to change the admissions criteria at such a late stage. May be a moot point for you as a complaint wouldn’t result in a place but it might be worth putting a thread up for one of the admissions experts to look at. The schools adjudicator may be interested.
Anyway, yes, seems very unfair.

Most of the dance colleges will be auditioning from January onwards for 2021 entry, either on person or by video submission.

For 2020 entry most auditions were completed by March. Those thsat were not continued to take video submissions up until around May/June time.
