What are your DC boarding schools putting in place for the autumn? Any chance of anything near normal?

Just that really ... looking for a school to take bright DC in unusual circumstances... thinking boarding school could really suit them.... but not if they are all online this autumn!!

So love to know which boarding schools your DC are going to and what their plans are for the autumn?

DS’s is starting at a state grammar school in year 7 in September which has boarders. They are expecting them to be back fully in September, with each boarding house counting as a ‘household’. Boarders who come from certain countries (they have quite a few Chinese students for example) May have to self isolate at a guardian’s house for 2 weeks before returning to school.

All year groups to be kept in individual bubbles regardless of boarding status (Approx 70 children).

International students required to be in the U.K. and quarantine off site for at least 14 days before coming to school. They are not permitted to return to their home country at Christmas and Easter but that will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Full boarders being placed in their own boarding house. Dorms arranged by year group, each with their own bathroom and common room.

Sixth formers in their own house with allocated bathrooms depending on dorm.

Weekly and flexi boarders in a further house with same year group dorm / bathroom / common room split. Minimum of two night stay per week with no one night stays permitted. Children normally doing only two or three nights a week are being encouraged to be day girls until January if possible.

Full extra curricular programme running but split by year group so won’t be as wide ranging as normal.

That’s 70 children in each year, not the whole school!!!

Year group bubbles in the day and boarding houses split into smaller bubbles but I don’t think they will have a bubble per year group in the boarding houses. More double lessons and changes to sport and extra curricular clubs. Options to isolate overseas pupils both on arrival in the uk for quarantine and if they get ill. Uk students would be sent home. Online leaning still available to isolating students via cameras in the classroom. It sounds reasonably normal ish. Don’t think I would send my child here from abroad for it though.

Individual dorms for mine, 6th form, not sure about others. Small bubbles for common room and other activities.
Much smaller ensembles with distancing. Huge restrictions/ non existent choirs, wind instrument ensembles. (music school) thought might interest some Grin
Academic classes are tiny anyway.
