If they are and a dc does a resit after getting their results and they do worse than the grade they were given in the first place can they keep the original grade?

I’m pretty sure that the reduction thing is a load of old bollocks. The last thing anyone wants is hundreds of children failing ‘exams’ and causing further disruption to schools in September.

There is absolutely no truth in the 30% reduction. A few people decided to start scaremongering on social media, then others decided that 30% meant that a grade 9 would fall to a grade 6. Please don't sign any petitions or spread anymore senseless worry. It is made up.

I don't think these exams will count as being resits given that the candidates haven't taken the exams in May/June. It's basically a choice between the grade in the exam and that assessed by their teachers.
The media are describing the teacher grades as "coursework" and that isn't really accurate either.

So glad you said this. I thought I might have missed something. A number of my friends (normally sensible people) have put this petition on Facebook encouraging people to sign. Now over 158,000 signatures.

I've written a long response explaining how I understand the system is going to work, saying that it seems perfectly reasonable to me given what we know about inaccurate predictions of A level grades and suggesting that people may be confused, but inviting them to send me a link to an announcement in case I'd missed it. No one has taken me up on it.

The 33% petition is rubbish. It is possible that 33% of teacher predicted grades will go down by 1 grade for GCSEs because teachers have awarded grades much higher on average than in previous years, but the grades will only go down 1 level, eg 8 to 7 or 6 to 5.

(a) They are not resits - they are Autumn exams and will never be classified as resits and (b) they were never off!

Yes the better of the two results can be used and the boards will issue replacement certificates to reflect the highest set of grades if you wish.
