I have seen numerous quotes from teachers mentioning they haven’t got the appropriate level of tech. This is their career it’s vital they have it, if they can’t afford it why isn’t there a responsibility within the system that they get it

Because under normal circumstances we don’t need it, we just use the tech at school so it’s not an issue. Or we can afford it, but we don’t but it because we use the stuff at school so don’t need it.

Me and DH are teachers. We have a laptop that entirely does the job for planning lessons etc but is now about 10 years old so a bit obsolete in terms of technology.

What we don’t have is multiple laptops, so I’ve spent a lot of time on google classroom on my phone!

My school laptop is over 10 years old and goes at a snails pace. It has no webcam.
If I hadn’t bought my own I would have been really stuck during lockdown. My school has had no budget for new tech for years

A teacher will be on a protected salary so in theory could buy tech equipment. I have had to buy equipment (private sector). I have also paid towards a local charity for a new laptop to keep up their outreach getting and donated an old tablet to a family without equipment. There is so much expectation that someone else will pay but we should focus on those who have no income or very low incomes otherwise where does it stop?

I have also had to learn lots of new tech skills quickly, in my own time. What I have found is that Some of DD’s teachers have used the tech well. Others (despite having equipment or being in the school) haven’t, so in a world of learning I have been astonished at those not willing to learn how to use the technology.

Some teachers struggle to buy food www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/teachers-food-banks-housing-shed-education-support-partnerships-schools-a9143366.html%3famp so a scheme to help provide them with the tech they need sounds a good plan
