Help, need to get out of London

First time posting. Can anyone recommend
an area outside of London( not to far) with good secondary schools. My younger son is 12 so would have to look for an in year transfer. Also how do the league tables work? In London it's by borough which I think cover smaller areas.

the easiest system there is ....
pick a town (other than north Basingstoke) and you'll be fine

League tables are done by county. But remember they are just a very small part of what a school is about. I would focus on what type of place you want to live in and then look at schools. A popular (ie 'outstanding') school may be one that loads of the students travel for miles to get to but the town it is in may not be that great.

Are you interested in grammar schools or comprehensive systems. Any preference on which side of London? Do you need to be a certain commuting distance back in London.

Yes, in my experience. Not everyone enters their children for the 11+.
