Gordon's School - Sixth Form Thoughts?

Hi!

I am likely going to go to Gordon's for sixth form and I wanted to know if anyone has experience with it.
I've gone to the Open Day and had a Private Visit too and I really liked it, but these can often gloss over any negatives, so I'd like to know about it from someone who has been there/ knows people there.

Are the teachers good?
Is it true that there is quite a bit of drug dealing there?
Is it true that there is some racism there - all the people of specific ethnicities being grouped and labelled together?
Do they actively support you in getting into uni?

Thank you!

I don’t know people in the sixth form there but I know a few families in the main part of the school and they really like it, it’s meant to be an excellent school - I’m sure the teaching is great. I can’t comment on drugs, but almost all schools probably have a small minority of students who experiment - it’s up to you to make the right choices. My son is in year 10 and we know people in his year group there from primary school, and the year above (who are ethnic minorities), they speak highly of it.

@Mumtofourandnomore

Thank you! I've heard so many good things about it, but one of my friends went there for a school tour and had another student tour her (and her mum) and the student was talking about the "black" house where all the druggies were and stuff.

However, other than this I've only heard good things about the school. It just seems odd that we both went for private visits to the school and got a totally different response. Also, I was toured by like the head of sixth form and she was toured by a student there.

Do you think I'm just overreacting about this? Because, it is like the best sixth form in the area... unless I want to go to London.

I think it’s quite an important decision and if you are concerned you should go back and have another look, ask to meet some current students - maybe the ones who are doing your subjects at A level. Ask the Head of Sixth form about the drugs policy and how often they have to apply it. It is not something I have heard of as being a problem, but am sure it exists in all schools to a certain extent. I’d be disappointed if an existing student drew attention to it during a school tour though.
