Calling all parents who’s ds sat the 11+ today... ds said maths was super hard and not the usual questions, he said he couldn’t finish the paper. Wondering if it was the case for the majority or he just had a bad day...

Hi all! Anyone sitting the 10+ this November?

begin2020 Thu 12-Mar-20 11:18:54

Hi, has anyone on the waiting list heard anything?

ripple11 Wed 04-Mar-20 23:06:41

Know a couple on the waitlist...nothing yet. Deadline for accepting first offers is noon Friday, and with Tiffin out this week, hopefully some movement after that. Good luck.

Has anyone from the waitlist heard anything ?

Thank you so much, 11pluswait and boysandgirls! The problem is that LU’s offer expires on 06MAR2020 (Friday next week), and we unfortunately have never had a chance to visit Hampton. Two brilliant schools (with slightly different strengths/focus) and our family loves both. It’s a difficult choice (LU now or Hampton in Year 9). Very aware that we are in a privileged position as well. I think that I will try to call Hampton and ask if they would be able to allow us to join the 11+ tomorrow morning. Would probably be our only chance to visit Hampton before LU’s deadline next week. I would like to advise the schools about our decision as soon as possible, so that they are able to offer the place to another, equally deserving, child.

There are visitor’s events this term & next and you can be put on a waiting list for one of these, particularly as your ds has done brilliantly & has an offer (info on the web site). I have friends who’ve been able to visit after being on the waiting list as people pull out nearer the time. Best to call admissions and ask, I always find them helpful

11pluswait Wed 26-Feb-20 13:28:11

Hi Tiredofelevenplus - the offer states that the open morning will from from 9.35-10.45. It also says it's exclusively for boys with an offer of a place for Sept 2020 but as your circumstances are a bit unique it's worth a call to them. The Admissions are really helpful. Good luck

Hi 11pluswait... DS was offered a 13+ place starting Year 9 in September 2022, but the taster day is not until September 2020... We moved from abroad and never had a chance to actually visit Hampton, which is unfortunate as we need to make a final decision soon on whether to decline or accept LU’s alternative offer... May I ask what time the 11+ offer holders’ open morning will start tomorrow...? If I am free I might call Hampton and ask if they would be able to squeeze my 13+ DS tomorrow as well... Thank you so so much...

11pluswait Wed 26-Feb-20 12:39:43

I believe it’s tomorrow morning

Sophie42 Wed 26-Feb-20 12:24:25

When is the offers morning or afternoon at Hampton?

@Sophie, all schools on this thread offer scholarships that they know wont be accepted, it's part of the whole game of offering to the top level dc that the schools all want to attract.

begin2020 Mon 17-Feb-20 20:14:59

Does anyone know how many are on the waiting list?

allyoudoiscriticize Mon 17-Feb-20 18:29:14

No post, just email.

I doubt Hampton have a waiting list for scholarships. Most schools don't. They select who they want upfront.

Sophie42 Mon 17-Feb-20 18:03:44

Thanks for the above messages. The letter was emailed. I thought they would post the letters after emailing. Did anybody receive them in the post as well?

Also do they ever offer scholarships on the waiting list (not the academic ones obviously) or just offers of a place I wonder? What happens to scholarships at schools if they are turned down?

allyoudoiscriticize Sat 15-Feb-20 08:16:06

Two boys I know are declining their offers to go to a closer school. The wait list will move.

Tholeonagain Fri 14-Feb-20 18:56:32

Hi no handwritten note here, the letter was emailed

Sophie42 Fri 14-Feb-20 14:30:04

My son is also on the waiting list. Like @All41and14all, on the second page there is a handwritten note by Mr Knibbs to keep in touch. I thought everyone had that, but is that not the case?

Ptarmigan68 Fri 14-Feb-20 11:20:17

There is a time in the summer term when your son will be invited up to Hampton. As Rakushka04 said there is the info morning where they will try and persuade you to accept Hampton. Then those who accept are invited up in the summer it is towards the end of the summer term. To those on the waiting list there is hope in my son’s class there is someone who is the only one of 4 or 5 who took his Hampton offer others went elsewhere like Tiffin...

ripple11 Fri 14-Feb-20 09:49:10

@Rakushka04. Not as such. There is an "information morning" later this month to meet pupils and teachers.

Rakushka04 Thu 13-Feb-20 22:38:07

Do they do taster session for 11+?

All41and1forall Thu 13-Feb-20 21:19:18

Thank you for letting me know. We are also on the waitlist. I wonder how many of us are there. Congratulations to those with the offers. Nice to have an end to all the wait! We are still neither here nor there!

whyisthisnoteasy Thu 13-Feb-20 20:51:57

Don't worry. The waiting list will move lots. Parents and boys will chose closer schools when they're offers come out, plus Tiffin early March.

Tholeonagain Thu 13-Feb-20 20:39:01

Hi - no, it was an emailed copy of a letter from the head, it sounded just like the one surbitonlady got, all about how he would thrive at the school but they couldn’t (yet!) offer him a place..

All41and1forall Thu 13-Feb-20 19:35:35

Hello Surbitonlady and Tholeonagain,
Could I ask; was there any note written by the headmaster in the email sent for the waitlist?
