Anyone who would like to join in general chat about the imminent exams? Somewhere to let off some steam out of earshot of DC!smile

Jane, it's worth emailing / calling this pm before the office closes for 1/2 term to say you are really interested and will take a place immediately if offered. If your other option is a state school & you don't have to put down a deposit somewhere else by 3rd March all the better. In 2016 & 2017 KGS didn't go to waitlist but they were over offering so in 2018 they reduced the number of offers and have been happier with the acceptance rate, I don't know if they used the wait list in 2019.

We are on the reserve list for KGS - does anyone know how that works please?? Sorry, probably stupid question....should I call and see what number DC is? Thanks for any advice....panicked mummy here.

Ibstock offers out today which is good for people wanting to make decisions over half term

IndyCisiv Sat 08-Feb-20 10:22:31

Ibstock is a lovely school. Great teachers; broad, well-rounded education. My daughter is thriving there and I’m really hoping my youngest child gets in. I think their comms (eg letters about entrance exam) seem a bit formal and not reflective of the warm and happy atmosphere in the school.

whyisthisnoteasy Sat 08-Feb-20 08:40:20

I know many families with children at Ibstock, whilst I hear grumbles from parents (as I do from parents with children at other schools, although not the same grumbles), the children are very happy there

cantwait2020 Sat 08-Feb-20 00:21:21

Ibstock is a funny one, no one can really tell what this school is like there's so much negativity and so much its a lovely school because it has a great make over in the park. But complaints about head the turn over in teaching the pastoral care were lost. The interview exam was tough along with computer they asked nothing about my daughter just exam based questions.... so it's a hard one wish someone would be honest about it.

Morefreedomless11plus Fri 07-Feb-20 11:49:47

Plus, how many took the 2020 Ibstock 11+, how many offers, how many places (minus those from the prep). Is selection based equally from interview, computer assessment (3 parts), written exam (3 parts) and head teacher references and/or extra-curricular activities? Are people happy with the school? What child does it suit?

Morefreedomless11plus Fri 07-Feb-20 11:30:25

Some Ibstock Place 11+ kids received an extra writing task in the English exam. Does anyone know anything about this? It feels unfair if they’re penalised having finished early and not using that extra time to go back and check the paper itself. Has this happened in previous years?

Ami01 Fri 07-Feb-20 11:21:35

Radnor house letters came through DS made it, so relieved.
The letter says it was the toughest entry till date for the school so quite pleased, mainly for his confidence and the fact that he really liked the feel of the school.

ripple ibstock offers came just before half term last year but looks like it's later this year if it's the 21st

Richmond001 Thu 06-Feb-20 21:46:12

Thanks smile was hoping that it might be earlier wink

ripple11 Thu 06-Feb-20 19:39:34

Yes I've got 21st written down.
I was told Ibstock are usually later than the rest!

Richmond001 Thu 06-Feb-20 17:32:03

Hi, anyone know when to expect to hear from ibstock? Website says approximately 2 weeks after exam and admissions say 21 feb? When have they done this in the past?

Wishingitwasover Mon 03-Feb-20 16:11:06

Having re-read a previous email from Epsom College, sounds as if they will arrive in the post tomorrow...! 🤞Best of luck to those who sat it!

jor456 Mon 03-Feb-20 14:50:54

There was an email saying offers for 13+ are being posted Tuesday. Not sure if the same timings apply for 11+.

soonbesummer Mon 03-Feb-20 11:47:52

Just wondering if anyone has heard from Epsom College yet? DS was very keen to know if offers were being sent out today before he went to school

jane128 Mon 03-Feb-20 11:21:00

Congratulations @somekindofmagic - bet that's a relief!!! Good luck on the decision making...are they same distance away?? We are still waiting but 3 out of 5 are already a no sad

somekindofmagic Mon 03-Feb-20 09:58:00

Hello OP here, how did everyone get on? Hope everyone ends up with happy offers when this whole process is done. It’s arduous to say the least. We were very happy to receive our preferred 2 so it’s decision time. Good luck to all DC 😊

Did anyone get st catherines letters?

Jbliwecd1 Wed 29-Jan-20 08:39:48

Not all of them. I double checked with KGS yesterday, for example. They will send by post on the 13th (delivery 14th) and then follow up with an email, but only during the following week. Good luck to all!

Surbitonlady Wed 29-Jan-20 00:01:19

I heard it was all done on email now...

ripple11 Tue 28-Jan-20 18:03:50

A friend once got two offers in a "small envelope" (saying a "big envelope" to follow later!!)

...so you never know grin

logfire2020 Tue 28-Jan-20 17:51:12

Unless your letterbox is slightly too small for a big envelope ...you still may get a little red card grin. Friend of mine never got any letter from their first choice school, lost in the post. She had to call the school.

I'm ashamed to admit, I walked the dog and stalked the postman for DC1 for our first choice school, to see where he was on his round... and then couldn't bare to look as he came down the path as to whether his 'handful' contained a big envelope. I'm not sure whether post or email is the best way.. or post on a specified date compared to an unclear time frame....either way it's stressful.

One thing I haven't done is told DS the dates we hear and I'm keeping everything so low key.. meanwhile ridiculously anxious as it's so uncertain what we may have to deal with for the next few months. I'm never great with uncertainty...

somekindofmagic Tue 28-Jan-20 15:54:36

Thank you!
