Suspended from school

My daughter has been escorted publically and humiliatingly from school and suspended as a photo shared on her private group (snapchat) has been copied by someone and passed to the head. The photo is an innocent pic of her teacher at the board, thats it ! Granted she shouldnt be using her phone, she was ordered to leave school immediately and not given any real explanations. She was treated with complete disrepect in front of fellow pupils too and made to feel like a criminal. Any school governors out there that can offer advice as I am sure there should be a proceedure on this where they should actually speak to the child first ?

What are the school rules around phones and taking.and sharing pictures of the staff.

Come on, OP. She’s messed up & your best way through this is apology & reparation, as the school sees fit. Absolutely not on to be taking covert pictures of teachers as they work.

Well they say its a breach of GDPR but. This is not a photo she has shared, this is a photo that someone has taken of her photo and shared. And, GDPR is DATA Protection, granted its a photo but if we all complained about being in a photo say in the background of someone elses private photos, this then we are all breaching GDPR. Its not so much the policy as in the way the whole thing has been handled. Its disgraceful !

No its not on to be taking pics of teachers as they work but to be publically humiliated for doing so is also not on.

So she took a photo of the teacher?
And then shared it on her Snapchat group ?

Report
HappyHammy · 29/11/2019 21:09

Why did she take the photo and how did someone else take a photo of it. It was shared.

I’m confused. Who’s in the foreground of the photo then? If you feel the teacher is an incidental background detail? And you’re okay with her having her phone out in class, which is presumably against school policy.

But she did share it initially.. it sounds like they are making an example of her. Bit OTT maybe but she still did wrong.

I get the feeling that Op won't admit that her dd has done anything wrong

As her parent, you say 'innocent photo'. School, presumably are rightly saying nobody should be taking photos of staff during lessons without permission. I appreciate you are on your child's side, but if someone took photos of her without consent, you would be pissed off. I'd put my energy into ensuring my child knows how to behave like a responsible young adult; your anger is misdirected.

Why is she taking pictures of staff and sharing them?

Report
Nix32 · 29/11/2019 21:12

So it's ok for her to disrespect staff by taking secret photos of them, but it's not ok for staff to treat her without respect?

Report
Walkingdeadfangirl · 29/11/2019 21:12

Who took the photo? Did your DD share it, or comment on it, on this private social media site? If she was innocent then she should have reported the issue immediatly. Was she using her phone during school time?

Sorry but it does sound like what she has done is automatic exclusion first then talk about what happened second.

It wont help if you make excuses for her.

So your daughter took a picture of her teacher working in class and shared it with a group of friends on social media...
and you don't understand why she is escorted off school premises?
It's just not on, she has invaded the teacher's right to privacy and broken school rules about mobile phone usage.
How would you feel if this was reversed?

Report
HappyHammy · 29/11/2019 21:15

Imagine if the situation were reversed and a teacher shared a photo of a student. Teachers have the right to work in a safe environment and not have their safety or dignity compromised in any way.

Sounds like you need to be talking to your daughter about appropriate use of social media rather than directing the blame at school.

Sorry but she should not 1) have phone out in lessons 2) take photo of teacher without them knowing 3) share the photo.
The school are right to do this & all you're worried about is that she's embarrassed.
They did this to send a message out it's unacceptable. However why would someone from the private chat go to the head with this?

Student takes secret photo of teacher.
Student shares photo on social media group chat

Mum is now furious that her darling has been pulled up for her actions.

Why do I get the feeling this thread will feature a lot of "she shouldn't have taken the photo... BUT..."

Are you one of 'those' parents whose kids are never wrong?

Report
sassym69 · 29/11/2019 21:16

Thank you for you comments guys, Yes shes done wrong, yes shes been disciplined by me, and by school and I completely agree with the whole shouldnt do it in class and have have her phone etc and yes, I am pissed ! No excuses. Just kind of wanting to share like you do and vent. And, kind of maybe have reassurances that she wont be completely excluded.

This is hilarious. She took a photo of a teacher in class and shared it with her friends on social media, but you think she’s the one who’s been disrespected and humiliated?

Report
HappyHammy · 29/11/2019 21:22

We cant comment on what the school will do now. That's their decision. Your d needs to apologise at the very least. X

Walkingdeadfangirl · 29/11/2019 21:22

Hope she learns her lesson OP. Am pretty sure the school will give her a second chance (as long as she is contrite).
