Maths on line

Hello can anyone recommend any online or at home work to help with maths ? My boys did Kumon for a number of years but want a change . They are 12 and 14. Any advice thank you

mymaths is the one my dd uses, it has 'lessons' to recap the topic and practice questions. isn't the most exciting thing, but it does help her x

Conquer Maths is excellent, and the customer service is ridiculously good.

Khan Academy has loads of free stuff, and progress tracking too though.

Thank you do know what level they go up to ? They are both good at maths but this is just to help them x thank you

my dd uses mymaths for gcse but i think it goes up to a level x

I don't rate MyMaths at all - it's okay for children who find maths easy but not for others.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 may i ask why you think that? (genuinely interested as maths is dd's weakest subject so i may need to look into something else if it isn't helping her! she hasn't said anything though )

HI @sleepismysuperpower1, it doesn't tell you the right answers if you get them wrong (just keeps telling you to have another try). Sometimes it is good to be able to see what the correct answer is to work out where/why you went wrong.

Also (I say this as someone who is competent at everyday maths but not at the harder side that gets DC the top grades), there are sometimes leaps between the lessons and the exercises. So, something will make sense to DD and me but then the exercises seem to be looking for higher level understanding - does that make sense?

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 ah ok thank you, I'll ask her how she is getting on with it, and then I think i will look at other sites then. It doesn't sound helpful that there is a jump between lessons and the exercises.

@sleepismysuperpower1I guess the jump might be okay if one's DC fully understands the underlying concepts but DD sometimes doesn't. FWIW DD moved down a set in maths and they don't seem to use MyMaths any more (which may be significant).

Would be interesting to hear what maths teachers think of all the different online learning tools available.

Not online, but CGP or Letts revision guides and workbooks are really good. Dd used Letts, but now tends to use CGP more. (She is now at A level). The books explain, give worked examples and lots of practice questions.

Khan Academy is also good, however the books follow the curriculum, so she used it to find videos to explain any bits she was finding difficult.

Wandering off curriculum there is the UKMT website, for questions which require more thinking about than just putting down what they have learnt.
