Malvern College

I am interested in any views on Malvern College - particularly from parents whose children are there currently. I am particularly interested in how strong the support is for those with dyslexia

Michael- my child has spld and had a rough time in primary- I don’t think it is an unreasonable question

Haggis - yes, but my experience is of SENCOs saying one thing and experience being another... I thought it was a reasonable question....

All three of my children went there and loved it. So much to do and have still kept the many friends they made there even though they’re all grown up.

My son was dyslexic and we found the care very high and he achieved high grades with their help. He is now 28 so things may have changed.

Michaela, to be fair, I think that was Malvern St James (separate girls' school) not Malvern College?

(And if having 2 schools in the same town is confusing, the days when there were 6 private senior schools in Malvern, 5 for girls, 1 for boys, all with boarding, were DEFINITELY confusing....)

Hi,

If your children have dyslexia DO NOT under any circumstances even think about Malvern College. Not only do they not understand it, they do not even recognise it.

After 5 years at this school my daughter was let down dreadfully by Malvern College, who failed , in classes of 2 or 3, to notice that she was dyslexic. As a result she left with poor A Level results and had to re sit them.
At her next college, she was instantly (within 3 weeks) told to have an assessment with a dyslexic practice in Solihull.
She was diagnosed and her grades improved dramatically.

Malvern College did nothing to help when there was a large disparity between her written work and her exam results. It was, looking back, pretty obvious really.

The school will offer you very little in added value and the fees increase each and every year, with the money being spent of ludicrous things such as the new drama unit, which was clearly built not for the pupils, but so it could house private events out of college term.

A pretty school lacking in substance. Expensive for what you get.

We chose badly and are now paying the price.
