Secondary schools in Bromley areA

I’m looking at trinity 10+ for my Ds but would require us to move house/ which is ok or look at colfes at 11+ , eltham .. undecided as colfes results in last years GCSE were near bottom of uk independent school results and eltham seems mega posh ... is it?? Anyone got any opinions?? If I’m wrong about colfes results I apologise and I know I should not look completely at the results so I appreciate any opinions but just want opinions from anyone in similar situations?? Thank you

It is hard to compare as Colfe’s use a combination of gcse and Igcse so some tables exclude the latter and make it look worse than it might be. From their website for 2019’: ‘Colfe’s pupils celebrated GCSE success, with over half the year group achieving the top grades of 9-7/A-A – more than double the national average – and 75% of pupils securing 9-6/A-B grades.’

I don’t know these schools directly as I have a DD but some of DD’s friends brothers went onto Dulwich, Trinity, Alleyns , Eltham and Sevenoaks. Trinity did great by one friend’s DS, he commuted from Orpington so a bit of a trek. He loved the combination of music and academic offerings. He wasn’t a sporty lad but others were and he didn’t feel left out.

Isn't Eltham pretty stabby? There have been a few stabbing stories in the press in the last few months for that area.

Anyway, where do you live and what schools are actually commutable for you? How bright is your son? Trinity is very academic (89% grades 7-9), Colfe's isn't quite up there but pretty academic too (61% grades 7-9).

I'd also add that if you're applying for indies, it's best to choose 2-3 schools that you like and you might get a place but also have a less academic backup school.

Eltham college is in Mottingham. Colfe’s is in Lee. Both equally stabby and at normal levels for London suburbs I’d say.

Sorry I don’t know anything about the schools but I feel pretty safe walking in either area after dark.

@drivingmisspotty The Met police finds violent and knife crime that way definitely more than average for London. Good you feel save.

OP, if you were to move for schools, you could as well move to SW London as it’s got tons of indies on the doorstep or easily accessible. I’m in Sutton and when I counted, about 10-15 of the top 100 were one bus/train/short drive away + tons of less academic ones too.

OP Trinity is a great school - in a different league from Colfes.

Eltham is not uber posh. It's a very down to earth school with an ambitious head. BUT it is going co ed from Sept 2020 so the 11+ entry will be mega tough for boys for a couple of years as the junior school boys have automatic entry and the school will be trying to recruit girls.

Lots I know have got into the junior school Y6 this year - saves a lot of hassle? Worth enquiring?

DS started at Eltham this September, in Year 7. He didn't pass the Kent 11+. There are 90 boys in his year, around half have come up from the Junior School. The school is indeed going co-ed in Years 3 and 7 (it is already co-ed for sixth form) from September 2020, but there will still be a good amount of places for bright boys.

@DarlingOscar there are stabby parts of SW London too. However, the only 3 London boroughs with no gangs are in SW London as well which makes it quite different to other parts of London.

@JoJoSM2 oh yes because gangs don't move between boroughs do they. And all crime is gang related so SW London is like a precious island. I see.
