Grammar school in year 9 admissions (from one grammar school to another on moving area )

My son is in a grammar school canterbuty we are moving from Kent to London ,Can my son transfer or get admission to any grammar school in London?

No, why would he? he will have to go on school waiting lists like everybody else. You will need to register him with the DOE at your new London council and he will be allocated the next available space in whichever school has a space.

He may have to do an exam at the London grammar to be considered for a place. Check with you the particular GS you are interested in.

No because they wouldn't kick out an existing pupil (assuming the year is full). You'll have to go through the in year admissions procedure.

Most Grammar schools are oversubscribed for in year admissions so you would need to apply and there is likely to be an age appropriate test for entry. Check with the school directly.

Knitclubchatter, the 'London' Grammar schools tend to be in the outer London Boroughs of places like Bexley and Bromley or in North London/Herts borders.

In year places in the London grammars are pretty rare; you have to sit an exam and there are always dozens of students sitting them.

Also most London Grammars are pretty "super selective" compared to a "normal Kent" Grammar.

You will be really lucky to get a place at a London Grammar- or any highly sort after London school. Can't you stay in the area so he can stay at his present school and whoever needs to get to London commute?
