Dear All
please help! does anyone have any personal knowledge about Akeley Wood Senior school? we are considering it as we need to move back to area due to dh's job. our state school option is literally no option ;-( is inadequate and needs improvement ;-( hence the desperate need for some sound current advice.

Neither the Buckingham School or The Royal Latin School are Inadequate. So not really sure where you are moving to? I’m sure you know, Akeley Wood tends to pick up DC that haven’t made it to RLS and cannot afford Stowe. Therefore it’s what it is. Better than a secondary (although I am not sure it’s better than Waddesdon) but not the glamour of Stowe or the academic status of RLS.

Thanks BubblesBuddy
It’s near Aylesbury and not close enough to Waddesdon. Our eldest (22) went to Waddesdon but unfortunately we are not in catchment anymore.
Looking for an all rounded down to earth school without the hard academic rollercoaster. Thanks!!

Assume Berkhamsted would be too academic? If its a girl maybe consider Thorton College. My friend's son goes to Akeley Wood and she speaks well of the school - she was looking for a nurturing environment so it may suit your DC.

Is Pipers Corner an option for a girl? How old are your children? I’m fairly close to you and schools for boys are a problem! I would prefer Berkhsmsted over AW but you might find you have little choice for a boy if Stowe is out. Berkhamsted definitely takes children who didn’t make the Bucks 11 plus. It’s not overly academic and has a spread of abilities.

Just a thought: if you could look at weekly boarding you wlll have s wider choice. My friends have had DC at Pangbourne College and Bloxham. Would these be of interest? Or Kingham Hill School near Chipping Norton?

Hi BubblesBuddy. Thanks! We have 2boys. They are spending a day at AW this week so will see. I like the fact that has new head. However thinking I can get them in then try and apply to waddesdon for sixth form? The results are not bad. Their inspection was very good however a while back.
We got used to a very good independent school in Devon so trying to compare is hard.
