Dr. Challoners High School or Beaconsfield High School

Hi lovely mums,

This is my first post on mumsnet, so pardon me for any mistakes seen with the post.

My daughter has been offered DCHS place and we are very pleased with the outcome. However, I am trying to know which of these schools (Challoners vs Beaconsfield) is better for my child. She is a girl full of life, high in confidence, artist (speech, drama and art) and does well in academics. But is not purely an academic child, as she would not on her own login to say a maths portal and do 100 problems.

I have heard about DCHS but would like to know more about BHS and why would one prefer one over the other.

I will accept DCHS, but would it be worth getting her onto BHS waiting list?

Kind regards,
Sri.

No, you've got a great school. You have to be a particular type to do well at Beaconsfield High. If your DD isn't of that type she may well be miserable. Stick with what you've got. You must have had a reason for putting DCHS first?

Stick with DCHS. You won’t do better!

It’s not a case of putting it first. It’s where a DD qualifies for a place. She’s qualified for DCHS. Not Beaconsfield. I don’t know how many would drop out of BHS. Not many I would guess.

My own experience of DCHS is first hand but from years back! I went there. However I still follow them on Social Media and it sounds like your daughter will fit in perfectly. Where do you live?

Dear all,

Thanks so much for responding.

I live in little chalfont, very close to the school.

@Mustbetimeforachange / bubblesbuddy - thanks for being definitive with your answer, it's rare to find someone who will answer with stark clarity. I also think my daughter would fit in better at DCHS.

Okbobble, good to hear from an alumni a positive response.

I've also done my research today and concluded that what I've got is a great school.

I've more looked into league table, what Ebacc scores of each school, progress 8 score etc... wish I could have visited the school once.

Unfortunately missed out all open days.

Thanks once again for your responses.

Kind regards,
Sri

My dd is in year 13 at BHS and has done well, as have all of her friends. They are all just normal girls. not sure what this special type of girl is that you need to be to do well there. there are a lot of myths about the school. That said have friends daughters who have been through DCHS and are equally happy. so would say in that basis be happy with what you have been offered

Honestly they are both great schools but living in Little Chalfont would make it a no brainer for me. I used to be bussed in from Denham, which was fine until there were after school hockey matches, rehearsals and events and no easy public transport route home!

I also wonder about this special type of girl. My daughter went to BHS, it’s a lovely, happy school with an outstanding Head and superb results. If you live in Little Chalfont though, DCHS all the way also a great school and her friends will be more local.

I cannot imagine why you would go to BH with DCHS virtually next door! Now you have said that, you must choose DCHS. How would she get to Beaconsfield? Bucks won’t give her transport!
