Shoreham College and Hurst

Just went to the Shoreham open day and was very impressed. Can other parents tell me more about the school? Our guide said the classes ranged between 10 and 19. My son needs quiet classes so sounds perfect, but I'm not sure if it's a bit too intimate for him?

We also visited Hurst. Great atmosphere, very impressive, completely different style of school, but classes seem to be 23? I'm not sure if it is an issue?

I'm finding it hard to choose (assuming both have places) as my son is growing up so fast. I like the idea of a nurturing, family feel but he's become very competitive and wants to be pushed. I'm not sure he knows what that means though!

What age? Hurst is generally much more selective and competitive.

Shoreham College is non selective so I know a fair few leave at 11 for the more prestigious schools. They are one of the few private schools that will take less able kids. Boys in particular in the Brighton area are quite stuck as Brighton College, Hurst, Ardingly all co-Ed and highly selective.

Girls have more options as they also have Roedean and Brighton and Hove High School.

12, so have been told selection for senior school is not a problem assuming places. However he did originally have sensory problems, has had a lot of therapy, and is making rapid improvement. Teachers see no issues now and can't believe he ever struggled, but he's in state school and am not convinced they recognise his struggles in relation to his achievements. He's highly articulate and knowledgeable but this doesn't translate academically and because he's a perfectionist he's very frustrated.

He's not sporty, but would probably enjoy them more if team spirit is the focus.

Sounds like Shoreham College might be a good fit?
