Alleyn's 11+ 2019

I have seen threads for Whitgift/Trinity, Dulwich College and others but I haven't seen much about Alleyn's.

My dd sat the exam last Tuesday. She found it "not too bad" but definitely got one of the later Maths questions wrong.

Just wondering if anyone else on MN waiting to hear about interviews?

Hi, my DD also sat the 11+ at Alleyns and thought it went well although she found some of the spatial reasoning hard.

Does anyone know how many applied this year?

My dd wasn’t a fan of the spatial reasoning either. Dd had a number in the high 700s. I wonder if that means there were 800+ kids?

I think there were about 930 who sat on Tuesday! Letters should arrive early this week for interviews.

Wow! Nearly 1000 applicants! Do you know how many they will interview?

From memory it’s about 250 for interview... don’t think the exam results are coming out until next week, not this.

Anyone heard anything yet? Just wondered if any dc's been invited for scholarship interview?

I don’t think the letters for interviews are posted until the 22nd Jan.

I think in previous years they have notified people earlier about academic scholarship interviews, but perhaps this year they're sticking to the 22nd for all interview notifications...

Scholarship interview invites were by email - ds came on the 22nd January a couple of years ago. It's almost certain your child will have a place if they are invited as then it is just a case of whether they get the scholarship.

The scholarship interview consisted then of an interview with the head/Deputy - a general chit-chat and a hypothetical situation (what would you do type thing). Then ther was an English discussion about a poem and some maths conundrums.

Thanks for info about dates and interview details MrsPatmore. I will try to be patient...

Dd has had an invite for scholarship assessment with JAGs which is great news, so I am feeling more relaxed about it all now!

Congratulations! You almost definitely have a place at JAGS then.

My DD sat for Alleyn's. Also now in the waiting game.

not got any insight on the scholarship end of things (!) but FWIW the general interview process seemed fairly straightforward when dd went through it.

The group exercise was done as a kind of ice breaker with a group of about 15 kids all getting to know interesting facts about each other. they did some kind of treasure hunt and had to make up a story to tell the group. It all seemed quite light hearted.

the individual interview was an odd one - with them having to provide answers to very off the wall questions (what would you do if you came home and found a penguin in your lounge anyone?!) but I think they change the format every year.

best of luck to all

Thanks for interview info.

The answer to the penguin is eat it!!

My DD two years ago was asked how she would describe the colour orange to a blind person!

HappyMama we were the same year then! the 3rd question was how you would transport water from a lake to the top of a mountain?

assume anything sensible is ok - even a kid I know who just laughed (to the penguin question) and eventually ventured she'd give it a bath got an offer.

although he eat it one is also good! (now caving a Penguin biscuit!!)

Yes same year as I also seem to recall the water to mountain question. I think laughing and coming up with a silly response is exactly the right way forward with these !

As the interviews are due to start on Saturday 26th - I am thinking letters should be coming out this week at some stage ?

Anyone else heard anything ?

I’ll be tempted to leave work early just to get the post! Do you think there is any chance that they might contact us by email tomorrow too with a copy of the letter? Probably not as that would generate even more admin....

does anyone know what they did last year? Confused

MrsPatmore · 22/01/2019 14:00

They just send out offer letters.
