Has anybody got recent experience of this school they can share? I know it’s had a mixed recent history but has a new head. Considering it for one bright son for year 9 and one hard working but academically average son for sixth form. Any feedback appreciated!

Read into it what you will that it’s not really on the radar for parents at a very local prep school. Pangbourne College or Shiplake are the typical destinations for your DS1 profile and DS2 would be headed to Abingdon.
However as you say, the new head may turn it around; Abingdon seems more competitive than ever and there’s a need for a good alternative boys day/boarding option for those at the next tier down.

We have friends that are happy at the prep. Abingdon for the bright one might be a more sure bet. Cokethorpe or Pangborne for the older boy.

I live close to it and dont know any local parents who send their boys there. Local boys who go private go to Abingdon, Blue Coats, pangbourne coll, OLA, Shiplake.

I have no direct experience but the stories in the press about it in the last few years would put me off.

Yes I live locally too and know most the schools quite well - but don’t know anyone with boys at the ‘the big O’. Wondering if there are parents on Mumsnet who are happy with it, guessing there must be.....?!
Don’t think there’s been negative press for a few years with the exception of a bad taste dressing up incident.

Can anyone share their experience of The Oratory school Reading? I am considering it for my daughter but the stories I am hearing about their academic and pastoral care is not so nice.
