School has lost dd's 11+ paper??!

HELP!! School has lost dd's 11+ paper! Email with results went out to everyone this week and we got in touch when we didn't hear anything... only then they realised it was missing.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Any advice? We are livid and panicking. They are going to contact us tomorrow with "the best way forward". What should we expect?

I think it will depend on the school, is this 11 plus in an 11 plus county, Private independent or super selective grammar?

My initial thought is that they will ask her to return to do a different paper or if it was a ‘first round’ paper they might decide to let her through to the second round. In this situation if it was a GCSE or A level, they would ask the school for an assessment of the child concerned. However, in that situation the school is acting as an exam centre for the board.

Are you sure it is the school rather than the marking centre?

Tissunnyupnorth I'm new to this, so I'm not sure about the difference? It's a state funded grammar school in London. She did maths & verbal reasoning tests, which are computer marked. She also had to do writing and comprehension papers in the same sitting.

The top ~600 of the computer assessed papers then go through to the next round. They mark the comprehension and writing papers manually.

I do not understand yet if they have lost everything or just the papers sent off for assessment?

PillowofSociety I don't really know as they are being very vague. I do hope (not in a mean way) that they are also panicking, because their email communications are coming off rather nonchalant.

I guess you are talking about a school starting with the letter L?

This may well be the fault of the assessment group rather than the school. If GL have the papers but haven't marked them yet, then I'd say they'll mark her on all three papers regardless now. If they haven't got the GL papers at all, I suspect they may end up asking your DD to sit different VR and Maths papers. This wouldn't be the end of the world. If they decide to mark her just on the English, I would tell them you will appeal based on equal access. If they've lost them all, she might have to do all 3 again..

Which day did she sit? There were 3 sittings so I wonder what on earth happened that they just lost one child's papers.

Not heard of this - heard of people not being offered places as LAs lost the applications between areas but not papers being lost. Might be worth you trying 11 plus forum for that school for advice as some 11 plus experts on there.

Has she sat any other 11 plus tests? They might just consider those. I wouldn't be surprised if they have lost more than the one.

Yes L is the school!
She was there on the second day, in the morning.

Ok so I know the school. GL is the company that sets & marks the papers for this school. I think the first question to be asked is, have both sets of papers been lost. If it’s her first computer marked ones, they will probably ‘put her through’ to the second round to have her written papers marked. However, if this is the case, you need to check with them what mark will be given for the first set of ‘lost’ paper as both marks are added to give the overall mark.

If both sets of papers have been lost I am intrigued as to what they will do (can you tell I’m an exams officer). GL only work on behalf of the school, so do not let the school try to suggest you deal directly with GL (I don’t think they will do this though). I think the school will ask her to return and complete the exam again. It’s debatable if this is fair, but their alternative would be to offer her a place. As somebody suggested above, try asking for advice on the elevenplus forum, there are some very experienced tutors on there who might have come across a situation like this previously. Also, as above, has she sat any other 11 plus exams? If she has and the are GL papers, there is an argument for GL providing a comparative mark from those?

GL is the name of the examining board they use to set the papers and mark them.

nano does your DD have an EHCP? If so her exam scores are treated differently by "L". Hope you can sort this out soon.

Happy update from me! They have now located the paper. It was misplaced in the marking centre!

We are so relieved and now just have to wait for her result. Thank you everyone on here for your kind words and helpful advice.

Another update - I feel like I should! They have marked the missing papers and DD made it through to the next round!! We are now waiting for the final results. Fingers are very much crossed now!
