Old thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3202074-GCSEs-2018-5-a-puppy-but-no-kittens

Just realised... this is thread 6, not 5. Oh, well!

Thanks mmzz for starting the new thread.

Maybe we can refer to this thread as 5a? Grin

Found it!

5a it is. Anything is better than don't let mmzz do anything responsible when she's tired!

You could report your post and kind MNHQ might change the title for you?
Good luck to everyone (DC, parents and teachers) ramping up for the last big push.

Request sent. I have asked for the 2018 bit to be added too. I'm useless when tired.
Thank God DH volunteered to do the ironing tonight else the boys would be wearing shirts with burn marks tomorrow.

AChickencalledKorma the answer to your question about exdexcel oral dates is in this document: https://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/GCSE/German/2016/specification-and-sample-assessments/Specification-Pearson-Edexcel-Level-1-Level-2-GCSE-9-1-German.pdf#page67
It says that the speaking exams must be done in a 5 week period in April/May.
It's worth having a look at the different marks available for the various parts of the speaking exam, if your DC don't know what to focus on already.

Thanks mmzz for starting the new thread....

Good luck to your DS with his Oral tomorrow (and any other DC's doing exams).

mmzz I've PMed you.

Shouldn't it be renamed 5 or a strong C to make this fully inclusive for both GCSEs and iGCSEs!

If it’s thread 6, then it should be ‘Thread 6 or B that’s probably good enough to carry on to A level unless you are doing Maths in which case you probably want at least a 7’.

And thanks for new thread, whatever number it is!

Well done for the new thread.

DS has just pointed out this is his last week at school. He has study leave on Mon 30 and Tues 1 before History on Weds 2.

How did it come round so quickly?

Can't be stressed though as dogs glands have just gone on the sofa. I think it knew I'd washed the cushions yesterday.

DS2 has his French oral on Tuesday morning. He does not seem nervous at all.

DD has her end-of-Y9 exams this week. Quite early but they need to get them out of the way before the public exams start.

Her school does end of year exams as close to GCSE conditions as they can. She has a candidate number, has been emailed an exam timetable, has to have a clear pencil case and will take her exams in the main hall with an invigilator.

She wanted to organise her revision herself without any input from me. She has done some revision, but has only covered half of the material that will be in the exams. Hopefully this will be a learning experience and she will understand that next year (and particularly in Y11) she needs to start earlier and do more each day.

Just saw her as she was packing her clear pencil case for tomorrow and casually mentioned that a calculator might be useful for the Chemistry and Physics exams. Shock

Just a quick note to say that the examiner's reports for the June 17 exams are now unlocked on Edexcel.

Does anyone know when AQA will make their examiners' reports available?

Report
Teenmum60 · 22/04/2018 22:41

Ahhh bless - DD has always done her end of year exams as close to GCSE exam conditions - I think its such a good idea to start the DC early in this format and then they are hopefully a little more relaxed com Yr11. I must get DD a couple of new calculators (so thanks for posting)....she has been using a phone when doing past papers because calculator went missing over easter.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 22/04/2018 22:49

Yhabks, it's the 9-1 version of thanks obviously!

DS3 did his Chinese oral before Easter. Does that seem really early? It's an A*-G old style GCSE, maybe that's why.

I must get DD a couple of new calculators

The numbers on DS2's calculator have worn off, so I must remember to do the same.

The stress is showing. Total meltdown this afternoon over dd’s make up. (It was confiscated due to the mess of her carpet & dressing table she’s making with it). Who’d have known that confiscating dd’s make-up was akin to turning the wi-fi off for most teens.

Ds not going in today as not feeling well........although he's very laid back and says he's not stressed I'm wondering if its due to stress as firstly how can you be ill in this lovely weather and secondly how can you not be at least a little stressed so close to your exams!!!! Grin.........maybe I will suffer all the stress on his behalf!

Report
LooseAtTheSeams · 23/04/2018 07:48

Bluebelle hope he's ok - I wouldn't be at all surprised if stress is a factor.
Got an email last night (!) from art dept saying coursework has to be in on Friday. First time I've heard of it and we were counting on another weekend - aargh!
Good luck to everyone with the MFL and hope it went well for those who have already done them!
