DS has been allocated his 3rd choice, John Hampden Grammar School in High Wycombe. Does anyone have any feedback on this school please?
TIA

Apologies for the spelling error, I meant High Wycombe.

John Hampden is a fantastic school. My son is in Y10, he and all the other boys I know there are really happy. We chose it because it is a forward-thinking school which seems to be preparing the boys better for a digital future than others that we looked at. It is also friendly and more relaxed than some others, but they expect high standards of behaviour. Great school, congratulations to your son for getting in.

I assume you have looked at the Bucks section of //www.elevenplusexams.co.uk? There are endless discussions about the relative merits of JHS or RGS with a lot of info to be found about both schools.

I know several former parents of JHGS. All have been happy. It tends to be a school that hoovers up boys who don’t get in elsewhere but that’s soon forgotten. It was the situation with my friends’ boys. It can be unsettling to appeal for what you preferred, and definitely more disappointment if you don’t get anywhere. My advice would be to accept the place. Many parents would love a place at this school!

Thanks Bubblesbuddy. We have accepted the place but we are on a waiting list for our preferred school.
And yes we are very lucky indeed Smile

I am in Bucks (my children are at SWBGS) and I know many people with children at JHGS. I disagree with JHGS being the school that takes boys what didn’t get in elsewhere- the people I know with boys there actively choose it as their first choice (several of whom are also catchment for RGS). If you look at the allocation distances for the two JHGS allocation distance has declined substantially in recent years whilst RGS’ has increased.

I'd also disagree that it take boys who don't get in elsewhere. My boy is at RGS but his year 6 cohort was about half and half to JH and RGS by choice.
