Finchley Catholic High School vs Highgate Wood

Does anyone have any experience of FCHS. We are considering it for our son. Our local school is Highgate Wood which I know is a great school. However, we really would like him to have a catholic education. He is a bright boy (needs a little bit of push to do more than what is necessary!) Currently at a private prep who have advised us that we should consider sitting him for UCS or Mill Hill. We have become a bit disillusioned by the private system and the entitlement of some of the children and parents not to mention the pressure on kids! I know this is not everyones experience in the private system and we believe each person should have their own choice and preference. We feel his personality and happiness would benefit more from the state system.

Any opinions on either of the aforementioned schools would be gratefully received!

No direct experience of FCH as we’re just out of catchment, but everyone I know with boys there has been happy. One of my dds was at the sister school, and they work together quite s lot - good results for a comp. like many catholic boys schools, big on team sports.

I’d choose it over Highgate Wood, personally.

Thank you Agonybeetle! I have heard good things about the school. I have heard great things about HW too but mainly from parents of girls!

We are in N8 do you know anything about catchment for FCH?

Nope, I just knew we weren’t in it when we were at that stage. Should be on the website though, either the school’s or the local authority’s.
