I just wonder if you know any other full boarding schools where the majority of pupils are at school during weekends besides Downside school? (80% full boarders) Thanks.

St Edwards is now offering weekly boarding as well as full boarding IME it’s a slippery slope. .
Boys full boarding Winchester Eton Radley Harrow, coed Kings Canterbury Marlborough Uppingham Rugby.

Where are you getting your 80% are full boarders at Downside figure from? My neighbours send/sent their DC’s there they come home every weekend. If it’s ISI reports they classify weekly boarding as full boarding.

Millfield is full boarding apart from day pupils. 3 exeats per term, not allowed to leave school until after games/matches on Saturday, back for Sunday evening. Only one fixed exeat in November, all others can be taken as students/parents choice.

Sherborne has day boys but the majority are full boarding.

Christ's Hospital, Horsham. A very few day pupils, but everyone else is full boarding.

I call that weekly boarding, for me full boarding is staying in school 7 days a week not being allowed home on Saturday after games back Sunday PM.
This is your problem OP everyone has a slightly different understanding of the term “full boarding”.

Thanks so much everyone for your comments. I will do more research about the schools you've recommended.

@happygardening I agree with what you described about the full boarding definition as I researched (mainly online) quite a bit about it and found it quite rare. Am I right?

@happygardening Regarding Downside, I got the 80% full boarders number from their website, I guess.

@user1469682920 Thanks. I really like St Edwards oxford, It's ideal for us. However, according to their website, the application deadline for September 2018 has already passed. So, I need to keep searching.

All of the boarding schools for entry Sept 2018 have had their entrance exams and offers have gone out.
The best thing, in your position to do, is identify which school you want to send your DD to, call the registrar and beg them for a place. Also get your DDs school write a AAA* recommendation for her.

Not co- ed but Heathfield School in Ascot is full boarding.

When a school tells you they are full boarding, ask how many stayed in school on the previous weekend. You will find it will be only those pupils who have no family in the UK.

Also when they tell you about all the weekend activities they organise, ask how many were cancelled due to lack of take up. There are now very few full boarding schools in the UK.
