Checking in. Revision here - Physics past paper and re-reading novel for Eng Lit today. My job is providing tea, snacks and controlling younger DD’s desire to wind up...

We chilled yesterday afternoon by making paperchains & decorating Santa biscuits with a 3 year old chum after school. Now her nose is back to the grindstone until she has a secret santa social life with her friends tonight. Maths, geography & science after school revision sessions booked in for this week, but none of them are for the subjects she got 5s in. I shall bite my tongue!

Revision today consists of two birthday parties back to back with mates including an outing to the new Star Wars He so needs it. Monday is Day 1 for us. Nothing till then.

Good luck to all those in the midst or soon to do mocks, they are a distant memory for DS.

Don't know about all your DC but DS is absolutely shattered its been a long term and he's really looking forward to some time off, lounging in bed and not doing very much.

No doubt in the new year things will slowly start to ramp up, hopefully with not too many dramas

Yup so agree - its been a long term... DD at Christmas dinner for 8 being cooked by a mate (I'm a bit impressed by this to be honest!)... and emphatically is having time off BEFORE revising.

Revision? I think I should avoid this thread as everyones kids revising will make me miserable. I've got a reluctant reviser who thinks that half an hour is doing lots of revision.

Thanks for starting new thread Sticker. We are a bit closer to getting 6th form application in, ds planning what to say and decided on A Level subjects (for now!)

DD also had end of term party overnight stay yesterday....we also went to theatre on Thursday night ...she's at her dads until Wednesday so hoping she starts to do some revision ...we are away over New Year for 5 nights so she will have some time off but hoping she will do some Chemistry and Maths revision whilst on the flights (we are away with a Chemistry Teacher and Cambridge Maths Undergraduate who would help with some tips).

I am struggling to find any reasonable priced study/revision guide for Igcse History - she has the last 7 years past papers but the revision guides seem to be by topics and all of them are about £24 plus per topic which seems excessive compared to other subjects ...

Drummers absolutely agree on importance of Star Wars! Monday is early enough to revise. DS1 will be desperately finishing his last art piece at the beginning of next week although I think there will be some fiddling with sketchbooks over Christmas.
The last maths paper was ok but apparently had one question that even the maths genius of the school couldn't answer. DS says he tried everything he could think of and nothing worked. He feels he did his best, though. He thought the Music exam was easy, which may be a bad sign!

Whinesalot Hi, I think most people talking about revision is because their DC have mocks in January, not actually revising for the summer exams...........or atleast there is no revision going on here!

Stars Wars on Wednesday for us. Drummers DD's school started their GCSE courses in year 9. They've been running revision classes after school all term to get them up to speed with the topics they covered initially and promptly forgot. They've been a godsend for me, as I work FT and the extra hour a day makes getting her home so much easier. I'm encouraging them all the way!

Donot if your DS applies to our mutual 6th form, the interview consisted of the tutor selling the benefits of the shiny new buildings and an immediate offer. What's he decided to take?

Dd broke up yesterday. Today was a lie in them Star Wars in the afternoon. She's done a revision timetable which apparently starts tomorrow. Mocks are first two weeks back but she has an audition in the middle of them.

ooh, posted on t'other thread, but I've changed my name including something from the old name... to do with skeins of wool ifysim.

We have had Star Wars outing, lots of sport and lots of shopping. Now struggling to get both children to read books and remember they have GSCES, but lots of sixth form interviews lined up so at least something is done now. Mocks over, and we get the brown envelopes here too (in dd's school) ds2 I think discuss the results in each lesson first.

cannot really focus on the gsce problem atm tbh, the A level problem (ds1 in Year 13) seems a lot more pressing this holidays..

loose that is fantastic he was allowed to do both Art and Music gsce, at dd's school they have a policy of three sciences (only to drop one in Year 11) and only one arts subject, or two languages and no arts subject. It is incredibly restrictive; tbh I would rather she had not done RE and done the two arts, Drama and Textiles, or even History and Geography. Now she has nothing to choose from since she hates Geography, and no sixth form offers Textiles except hers!

they only drop one science of course if they aren't up to three, some people obviously continue with three, but school used to just stream them from year 9 into double and triple; they ended this in case there were late developers who were going to be geniuses in physics. Dd does not fall into this category but she could have done with an extra Arts subject..Drama Art and Music all wanted her, but the Textiles teacher nabbed her!

We went to see The Last Jedi this afternoon. We were a little early, so were seated before the adverts started. I turned to look at DS2 and he was sitting there doing a Maths past paper!

Whines/Back for Good: I'm in your corner. DS doing mocks from 4th January and has done no revision so far. Seems chilled about it. We're going to have a word tomorrow, but he thinks he has it under control so we are going to leave him to do the mocks his way, then see what his results are

DS2 has GCSE mocks starting on 2 Jan. He spends most of his time studying and revising and I'm concerned that he may burn out before May.

DS1 has A-level mocks in late January, and two massive pieces of coursework to do. He spends most of his time going to parties and watching Netflix.

So I'm experiencing both ends of the spectrum. Hopefully DS3 and DD will be somewhere in the middle when it's their turn.
