GCSE maths re-sit

Hi ,
Can I just ask a quick question about GCSE maths re-sits . My understanding is that if a student gets a grade 3 in Maths in year 11 then they can re-sit GCSE Maths at college. Anyone getting below a grade 3 would have to do functional skills Maths at college. What about those students that sit the higher Maths GCSE in year 11 and get a U ? Surely they don’t have to do functional skills at college without trying the foundation GCSE at college .
Anyone any experience of this . Thanks

Answered on your other post, but for the benefit of anyone who might be reading - below 3 and you have the option of functional skills, 3s have to take GCSE.

Someone getting a U on higher should be entered for GCSE for resit.

When you say the option can a college insist on one way or the other or is it up to the student ?

I'm guessing you would need to speak to the college, but it would seem a nonsensical decision to not at least put her in for Foundation in November and see how she gets on. The college should be running GCSE resit classes anyway so it's not like they'd be putting it on especially for her. I would strongly insist and see where it gets you.
