School Skirt Drama - Plain or Pleated?!

Hi there, my first post on here so hi to all!

My eldest daughter (14 going on 20!) is in need of a new school skirt, she's currently wearing a sensible length plain one that isn't too tight and I think looks very smart on her. She's bugging me though to get her a pleated skirt?? Are they in fashion now? Almost all girls at her school wear the same plain skirt so my feeling is I'll get her a pleated one, she'll wear it for 5 minutes, then want a new one again... grrr!

So I've got two options; get her a new plain straight one or give in and buy her a pleated one in the hope that it isn't a five minute wonder... What would you do? I have found a lovely one from Trutex - their stitch down pleated skirt (www.trutex.com/schoolwear/ski...-pleat-skirt-1) - has anyone else bought these before? If so, are they any good?

Thanks!

Hannah

Buy her what she wants now and refuse to replace it if she changes her mind. If she is desperate for a plain skirt in September then she can save up and buy one.

DS's school only allows pleated skirts (the thinking is that this is because they are harder to roll up though it doesn't seem to stop most of the girls )

Which is of course entirely irrelevant to your position. but I think in your case I'd buy her what she wanted but tell her you won't be replacing it until it actually needs replacing (which presumably might be never if she's only got 2 more years of school).

DD's school only has pleated, they are really obvious when rolled up.
I also think they look lovely and a bit less grown up.

Dd prefers pleated (from M&S) where as most girls at her school tend to pick pencil or trousers.

Just tell her that you won't buy a new one until September 2018 or is whenever.

DD's school have plain (from local school uniform shop) or pleated (stitch down pleat, orderable from Trutex). 98% of girls wear the plain one. My daughter (y9) insists on the pleated one. To be fair, it is much better quality than the plain one and looks good on. Looks a bit crap now it is summer and you can see where she obviously rolls it up, but she likes it and most of her friends would also have one if their mum's were daft enough to order it they could.

There's only a few weeks of term left, and she may well have grown again by September.

So get her the one she wants right now, as whatever you get might inky have a few weeks wear.

Thanks everyone - I think I will get her what she wants, but I'm going to tell her I won't replace it until it is worn out / outgrown... I think that's fair! Quadratilla - has the Trutex skirt lasted well for your DD, does it need much ironing after washing?

Ok, so the new skirt has been obtained (I've tried to attach a picture here for any interested...) It is certainly lovely and smart on her, looks very well made too! Hope she doesn't change her mind now as she's stuck with this until it wears out!
