Dropping from 3 subjects to 2 in Y13

Does anyone know if there are any consequences regarding funding if your DC drops a subject at the end of Y12? A member of staff at the college has told my DD that there would be, but her tutor is off sick and I'm not sure who to check with, so wondering if anyone had been through this before. She knows that she did badly in her exam for this subject, but is doing brilliantly in the other 2 subjects (BTECs with no exams)

How many hours a week would two subjects be? If the two BTECs are A level equivalent it's likely she wouldn't be regarded as full time so they couldn't claim funding for her. If they're bigger than A levels, e.g. Extended Diploma, then she should be ok. Can she not replace the dropped subject?

Yes not enough hours for funding. We couldn't allow it for those reasons. Can she pick up an AS, or an EPQ and an extra GCSE or something.

DD started a BTEC Diploma (2 A level equivalent) + Spanish.

Due to Spanish AS result she had to drop that for second year, and instead had to pick up more units for the BTEC doing the Extended Diploma work (though she won't end up with it as will be 3 units short due to not doing them in the first year).

She wasn't allowed to just do the 2 A level equivalents due to funding.

Thank you so much for the replies. She just can't cope with exams - she suffers so badly with anxiety. She's fine with coursework - getting all distinctions so far. She'll have to find another course that doesn't have any exams.

Do either of her 2 BTEC courses have a Diploma option as opposed to Subsidiary Diploma?

Thank you teen - yes they both do, so doing more units is another option. Probably the one that relates to the career she wants to follow would make sense.

By doing more units she will get to pick the 'best' units to count for the subsidiary diploma, and then have the other units as extras.

There may be timetabling issues so better to discuss this side of the summer break I would think.

that's great advice - thank you teen

My daughter is devastated that she has missed her AS exam today, she had misread her timetable and is all prepped for tomorrow! This is one that counts as it's under the old system. She is heartbroken, it was her last exam out of two weeks of exams. Is there anything she can do or is that it?

Janie suggest you post again but create a new thread with the title 'missed an AS exam - Help' or something and you may get some knowledgeable people replying.
