Thanks for new thread. Will repost this in case it gets missed at end of last thread.

Dd answered the questions she should have done in geography and had time left over so decided to answer extra sections she didn't need to on topics they haven't studied.

She swears her teacher said she might get extra marks if they did that??
I'm not sure it's the best idea. Surely if the paper says answer three sections you do that, not four! What if they count her worst three sections?

Report
BertrandRussell · 22/05/2017 17:06

I don't think she'll get extra marks. I think they'll just mark what she's done in order so they'll ignore the extra bits.

I don't think she will get extra marks and I echo your concern :-S

I'm not sure what the answer paper looks like.....so not sure if it will be obvious what the chronological order of answers is if you know what I mean?

So I'm worried if she answered for example Q1, 2,3,4 and q2 was glaciers and she hadn't studied glaciers. Would the exam paper have space after each question for each question or is it blank paper answer book?

As soon as DS called I cut him short and told him i know most of the case studies didn't come out etc....him... Confused,'How did you know that?" me Grin, 'I have my sources', source being MN of course.

Physics and Maths next, those are his two strongest subjects.

Thanks for the new thread.

Possum I'm pretty certain they'll use her best sections, but it was a slightly daft thing to do and she needs to be discouraged from doing it again in a different exam if she is answering on stuff she hasn't learned about! Better to review the other sections and try to add bits I would think.

DS has texted and rung but was being very cryptic on phone, poss as he's with his GF and she may have found it harder. Says Merchant of V was very tricky ( Portia and feminism!! I said yesterday 'oh they won't ask that - it's far too hard 😳')
He said ' I just said the same thing in three different ways in the three paragraphs'. Jekyl and Hyde OK apparently. But he sounds deflated 🙁

Thanks for the new thread

Rockefeller234, good luck to your son.

I've only just to the point where I've realised case studies weren't that relevant in geography this time - could do DD a favour as she was worried she hadn't revised them well enough this morning.

It's Monday, but am I the only one whose tempted to open an unchilled bottle of wine?!

My DD has come home really upset that only 1 of the 20-odd case studies they had revised came up in Geography today. She said that everyone really struggled with it. On the upside English Lit seems to have gone ok. So glad I found this thread - it just might save me from opening the wine tonightWink

Yes to wine! Wine
We actually have some in the fridge that was opened yesterday. Definitely needing a glass tonight

Sounds a bit harsh about the geography case studies Sad

Rainbow ds did OCR War of the Worlds too - he did the extract question and thought it was on a fairly straightforward throat. Hope your ds found it ok x

DD said that WJEC English not too bad although from what she says she sounds like she might have waffled on a bit...

dc geography, he said he knew it all but ran out of time. He was hoping for A* but has now come out settling with A

I hope they'd mark the first three answers in her booklet & ignore the last one Possum but I honestly don't know.

dd is happy, rewriting her missing poetry notes (managed to find notes for 8 of them) & notes for Jekyll and Hyde

fairly straightforward throat

Erm, theme!

He's got computer science and RS tomorrow, both well understood and well revised, so fingers crossed he does himself justice.

Hope everyone - and especially Jufus's dd - can put each day behind them and move on to the next.

For those of you empathising with my horror at Greta Expectations , the Q was OK. It was Magwitch which would not have been my first or even second choice but we did revise him last night ( I am renowned for my psychic powers as I also said thumb biting would come up for R and J!) Not sure what eh thought of Macbeth.

The R and J was a bit tricky though as its in prose and full of 'banter' : not something many students will work well with. It was gift for the 'rest of play' but though.

Essentially all the Qs were fine, if you are really able, know the texts inside out, write with confidence and assurance and can think on your feet. So, essentially an A level student doing a GCSE...

Jumping aboard to wish everyone luck.
DD has done drama, Spanish and 1 eng lit paper. Day off tomorrow to revise biology and business for Wed.
I hope your households are less stressed than mine - I am getting through a lot of wine.

Rosieposy4 · 22/05/2017 18:32

DS sad too about the lack of case studies in geography ( waste of time learning them all etc) seems a bit happier after we chatted on the way home and is resolved to get excellent marks on the human paper.
Eng lit was apparently fine, but would never have been one of his best subjects.
Now chilling on the sofa, no exams tomorrow.

Iamnotminterested - DD did Macbeth and Jekyll and Hyde today.
