Soooo - here we are then.

Just wondering what people's revision plans are? One of the lovely teachers at DS's school has suggested that he takes both of the next 2 weekends off from revision - have to confess that has made me feel a bit nervous!

Well at least 3 exams are already out of the way. We have half term for a week this Friday and then straight into CE on return! Yikes!! It is rather worrying me that DS is feeling optimistic and buoyant! Double yikes! He will be working every day for 4hrs per day through half term, except the Sun before when I want him to relax.

No way should they be taking weekends off!

I let ds have the day off yesterday and cancelled tuition on Friday after school. He's really tired and being dyslexic he has to work that much harder than others.Ds also gets ill every exam week with a cold/virus, so I'm trying to prevent it this time.
His class are all now really tired of revising and CE exams after every half term.I just want them to still have some time to play and be kids still.

Don't forget that CE starts on the Tuesday this year not the Monday as usual, so they will have lessons back in school the day before, and due to starting on the Tuesday the exams are a bit more spaced out with only 3 on the Wednesday to allow for matches that afternoon.

Where I work we are not on half-term, we have a week off after CE, much better than expecting revision at home, we do it all in class.

We're on holiday for half term. Booked a check in bag for revision books (over the weight limit...). Trying to do 3 hours a day spread over the day to give DS time to relax and enjoy the holiday.

He's so laid back! Doesn't seem really to care what's going on. Needs 65% average which is well within him so fingers crossed he can do enough to get over the line. Can't wait for a week on Friday...

We are plodding on - desperate for it all to be over too.

We have been told that some, possibly all, of the results will be out on 16th June (not 19th as previously thought). Has anyone else heard this?

We are also looking forward to stopping revising and extra tuition sessions.I have found it all so bloody stressful!!
The next two years I have another one going through it all again. But he is in top sets with no Dyslexia , so I'm hoping it will be a lot easier.

It's funny this percentage thing because you don't actually get a percentage, you get each exam graded A-E. of course you can figure out what the equivalent of that it but always wondered why they do it that way. Also some schools have different grade boundaries, so what is an A at school 1 could be a B at another.

TamSam61 · 02/06/2017 20:01

Wait. My first experience of common entrance. How do we know if he's got 65% on average if we just get told A-E? Those who've done this before, on results day do you get results and also notification from school(s) on the same day? Thanks

The senior schools usually notify your school (prep) first. The senior school marks the candidates papers. Prep head at our school, then calls in each student one by one and reads out their results by subject with a 'congratulations'. Kids scribble it down nervously. So you know you're in and can figure out your percentage. But it's not that important anymore cos your in Grin if that makes any sense.

If student fails, which is rare/unlikely, prep head should be on the phone to parents immeadiately to start discussing alternatives. If there are mitigating circumstances HM at your prep should already be in convos with senior school prep before everyone gets their results.

TamSam61 · 02/06/2017 22:40

Imelda3 the ISEB website says results will be known "by the Friday of the week following the examinations and before parents are informed by the Monday" which indicates the prep schools will know by 16th and parents told by 19th.... I suppose it may vary from school to school and Monday 19th is the last day. If there's an issue, the senior school is encouraged to contact the prep on the Tuesday.

In general I'd say 'relax'. For what it's worth DS's (now) senior school told us when he was in Yr 8 that they were so confident in their selection process that of those they had pre selected 99.9% were certain of getting a place after CE.
