Hi. My ds1 school is an academy. During the next academic year (September 17 onwards, there will be 9 inset days.

I thought the maximum was 5 per academic year.

Can anyone shed light on this?

Are the children still getting 195 teaching days per year?

Your son should still have 195 days of teaching. The extra days might be coming out of the teacher's holiday.

I will have a count up!

I know that academics can set their own rules on some things so I was thinking was this one of them

Children should have 190 teaching days. Inset days are fewer days teacher holiday so just check for 190.

Sorry, yes 190 teaching days, not 195.

Sorry, I meant 190! It's also possible that if their days are longer, they can fit the required teaching hours in fewer days.

The law relating to the school day and the school year don't apply to Academies, so the 190 session regulation doesn't apply. An academy can set its own school day, term and year.

PatriciaHolm - many thanks. That's what I was thinking.
