Year 11 stress

Anyone else with a year 11 feeling overwhelmed. My son has mocks next week, French writing assessments to prepare for and lots of after school revision sessions to attend. The maths syllabus is proving hard and although he is in top set and predicted a 8 there are lots of topics that need a lot of work. How much revision is your year 11 doing and how are they coping?

Hi Earlgrey - if you look down this board at the list of thread titles you'll see we have a y11 support thread going - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/2724952-Starting-Y11-support-thread - and yes, there are plenty of rather overwhelmed students and parents Sad and probably not enough revision ... There's also some very useful info about the new maths gcse.

Little revision here, mocks this week and next in English, maths & three sciences. Last French controlled assessment due next month. He is quite calm and has just looked round sixth forms. I did go through a unit 2 biology paper with him recently and we were pleasantly surprised, nay amazed, at how low the grade boundaries were (A*/A/B 40/33/26 - AQA 2014).

Personally I'm hoping that once ds has got through this term (mocks, another mfl assessment coming up, etc) that things will calm down a bit before full-scale exam panic sets in.

I don't see it calming down before June. Worried about burn out. He works hard but it's so difficult with new maths and English exams

Dd is generally too relaxed (are you going to do any revision for English? Nope! How about history? Nah, no point ?!?!?) apart from maths which honestly has her in tears most days. Mocks start on Friday (with maths) & despite the misery she can't quite bring herself to revise enough - she's got school events two evenings this week so hardly anything is getting done - she was doing okay until a couple of bad maths past papers has rendered revision "useless".

It is very stressful to watch.

Oh & she's preordered the new Pokemon game - I'm hoping to intercept the postman. If she gets hold of it there will be no work. And I found her wide awake, lights on pissing around in her room at 3:30am this morning. Not happy.

I think the new maths syllabus could be very counterproductive and put off a lot of students taking A level
