My dd will be starting secondary school next September and I've narrowed it down to these three schools. St phils is closet to us but appears hardest to get a place at. We are catholic and attend church regularly so wont have an issue getting the priest to sign the application.
Has anyone any experience with these schools? ( Ursuline in Wimbledon and Holy cross in new maiden)

What about Coloma?

pineapplepizza1 · 06/10/2016 17:18

I did have a look at Coloma but my daughter was baptised after 6 months so seeing as the school is already oversubscribed I didn't think she'd have much chance of getting in.

I don't have a child at Ursuline, but girls I know there and their parents seem to be happy there.

I've heard that they are very pushy with the brightest girls. I guess that's how they get such good results.

Thank you I've heard similar things about Ursuline although last year they had over 900 applications for approx 150 spaces so it'll be hard to get into! I've applied for all 4 schools though so I guess I'll have to wait until March for the outcome.

When they say 900 applications it doesn't mean 900 at first choice. Some people may have put it sixth and still be counted in the 900.

A girl in DS's primary class got a place at Ursuline in July. She's not even Catholic or Christian. She is Hindu.

The Catholic girls will be applying for a few schools (like you are) so there are actually quite a lot of places really.

If you're Catholic and go to mass regularly, you have a good chance.

pineapplepizza1 · 09/10/2016 04:28

Thank you I didn't realise that but when you come to think of it it makes sense!
We are catholic and go to church regularly ( the priest has already given us a reference) so hopefully we get a positive outcome on offer day in March.

We looked at all 3 last year. All seemed good, but we liked St Phils over the other two. Daughter started year 7 at St Phils in September and so far is enjoying it and has settled in without any problems.
It is over subscribed and I think everyone falls into the "a" admission category. but they did add a new form of 30 additional places this year although that is for those who specifically live in Sutton.

Going by the recently released Gov progress 8 GCSE 2016 attainments, Ursuline is way above both St Philomena and Holy Cross if that helps.

pineapplepizza1 · 19/10/2016 02:07

Thank you that does help in me listing an order of preference.

Hi! I just wondered what you went for in the end and what you got and how your DD is liking it? I’m currently choosing between the same three and of course due to the pandemic haven’t visited any of them. Thanks!
